that the point of the choke to stop most of the air it still get somes

does the bie start?

na not yet, but when i roll started i dont think it was sparking...so ill try the screw driver then tommorow if i can, cause i havnt got the tool to get the bugger out

edit: that means that everytime i put the choke on it wouldnt work, i thought it was the opposite :S and that it started first kick iwthout the choke :S

yer they dont need the choke always hav the motor had some running time cos if it have it might need the valves done

yer checked if they got gap or not if they got onr that can stop them from starting

wher would you pick up one of those valve clearance checker things, the .0001 or .0002 ones, from any moty shop?
sorry ot sound stupid, but never done more than ride a moty, never owned one...

You need three things fuel oxygen and spark. If you don't know what your doing with your fuel mixture screw don't touch it. If you run you engine to lean it will get hot and you could burn you valves or your rings out. It's most likely something simple with you engine, but get someone who knows what they are doing to look at it.

you need a feeler gauge. any auto shop shold have em. go to supercheap or sumthin

i dunno if im right. but yor bike looks alot like mine. choke does anyway.
and in mine, the choke is the other way around, choke is off when its up, and on when its down.

just thought i'd chuck that in there.

just take the air filter off and if there is a butterfly (a type flat peice if metal inside when you look into it) its a butterfly type. move the choke lever and this thing will rotate. one way blocks the air to suck more fuel and the other lays flat to let air past it. When choke is on the passage will be blocked when choke is off butterfly will be laying flat. Also if you put plug lead on another plug to test it you wont know if your plug is working but at least you will know that spark is getting to the plug I spose. check if your dads plug spanner for the lawn mower fits your plug cause mine does. check your fuel and spark before you go stuffin around with your valves cause it could be something simple

yeah mate
got the plug out today, used some pliers to losen it and it came out :)
got a spark and everything...then tried bump starting again and still didnt sound like it had a spark.
ill be taking it to a moty place probably as im the only bloke in the house and my mates arent good enough to diagnose.
but did clear alot of things up with the carbie ect cheers :)
let u know when i get it fixed (y) :)

Yeah , with those carbs the choke is off when the lever is down and on when the lever is up ... There ARE others that work the opposite way tho' ... When the choke is on , the butterfly will be blocking off the airflow into the carb and that forces all of the vacuum to suck fuel thru the jets to make the bike start easier ... The throttle should not be touched while starting the bike as that will flood it and make it near impossible to start ...

Try kicking it over with the choke OFF and do not touch the throttle ... Lifting the slide causes the vacuum to drop and the suction on the jets also stops because the engine is going too slow at cranking speeds ... Turn the idle screw up if you have to ... Your main aim is to get the engine started and keep it going on its own without the need to touch the throttle ... Then you can tune it once it's warmed up ...

To tune the air/fuel mixture ... get the engine idling fast , then screw the mixture screw in until the motor starts to die , then back out until it starts to run weird then screw it back in by half the amount of turns you screwed it out ... Lower the idle and repeat the procedure until you get a steady slow plonking idle with no fluttering or variance in the revs ... the lower you get the bike to idle , the more sensitive the carb will get to the screw being turned ... (half a turn either way will make a change in the exhaust note) ... once you've got the mixture homed in with the slowest possible idle speed ... turn the idle back up to suit your requirements ... IF you've done it right , the engine will start first kick every time without your needing to touch the throttle ...

Carbs with the fuel screw underneath at the rear need to be tuned slightly differently to that , but they are also a snack to tune ... My friend bought a new 2009 DHZ 125 bike that has a PZ26 Keihin copy carb on it and it was a cinch to tune because the fuel screw sticks out further than it does on the annoying Mikuni copy carbs that earlier models used to have ... The newer carbs on the DHZ's are also quite impressive as stock ... Incidentally , Ivan did the EXACT same " start with the choke off then die in the ass when he turned it on thinking it was off " trick ... The best way to avoid that scenario is to remove the air filter then flick the choke on and off until it's programmed into your cranium which way is which ... some people are very forgetful and should write it on their forehead with a texta until they get it right ... and for others ... tattooing it on permanently might be a consideration ...

also make sure you adjust the throttle cable at the throttle housing so theres little play. 1 it makes it easier to ride. 2 it may affect the way the idle screw operates not sure on that one though
