I bought one of these brand new in 2007. still got it if you need any parts although its had a hard life and its been a donor bike for a while now. The motors are tough and so are the frames. The whole bike has been underwater so many times ive lost count and everything still runs, bit smokey, but still goes

it's been a while since my last update,
i got sick of push starting the 125 very quickly.
it is a bit hard to do in the sand too

i picked up another motor, a secondhand 110 3V, in reasonably good cond.
i had to modify the mounting hole in the back of the motor to accept my orions 12mm bolt
and slightly twist the top mount on the frame
.
next problem was the clutch cover fouling on the frame through the rear mounting bolt holes.
i tried trimming a bit off the frame, but it wouldnt go.
i swapped the clutch cover with an old zongshen one i had.
anyway got it running nice and took it away for the weekend

first ride it took off ok, i went for 3rd gear, but it wouldnt select it.
took it back to the shed and had a play with the selector drum, both bolts were tight still.
it must of had a broken dog on the 3rd gear.
i only rode it a bit, just shifting into 4th and avoiding 3rd as much as i could.
pretty lame
i took it out in the sandhills and gave it a bit of a thrash, and ended up ripping the rear sprocket off the hub.....
damn.

cheers, craig

in the last few days i have done a few more mods to the bike,
i took the rear subframe off and have remade it ,
the tank, seat etc sits back another 50mm now
and the frame has also had a couple of mods for the latest engine
i now have a 150cc for it, done low kms

i had to redrill the rear bolt hole in the motor to 12mm again
and this motor has even less clearance to the swingarm area.

i decided to remount the swingarm back another 40mm using a second 12mm bolts.
this has caused a couple of other issues.
the shock linkage fouled on the swingarm etc etc
i moved the swingarms' cross brace forwards to compensate for the new mounting position.

the top shocker mount also had to be moved backwards to make it all work.

here are some more recent pics, still a bit of work to go though.
seat front mount, tank mounts, cdi, coil, and custom air intake, kickstand and a bit more,

What's the lil bike in the back ground??? Of the last pic lol

Love your work dude,You're committed haha i have one of those frames and swinga in the shed was going to cut it up for an engine stand

sneezy,
that is one of my Yamaha Chappys, my other thread in the japs builds section.

cozza,
thanks,
committed or stupid? lol

nah, just hate badly designed stuff

thanks mate,
im slowly getting it together.
been working on it a bit in the last week or so.
frame welding /bracing is all done now, just a couple more welds to finish off the swing arm.
the new motor (lifan 150) has been fitted, mounts and exhaust modified, new oko 28mm fitted, new-used suzuki rmx250 muffler modified and fitted, customised shift lever fitted, new used kickstart ready to go on etc etc.
will post up some new pics tomorrow sometime
engine starts easily, runs sweet
all stripped down again, getting it ready for a new paintjob on the frame
should be back together and good for a ride late in the week.

cheers, craig

Looking good mate. Did you ever get around to weighing it, keen to see how much (if any) extra weight it has on it now?

the original mods to the frame made it .45kg heavier,
i will weigh the frame tomorrow again, and compare it to the standard frame weight
i'll post up the results when i find out.

standard frame weighs 9.5kg
modified frame weighs 13kg, and is now probably 3 times + stronger than the original
i weigh 62kg, and my brother inlaw weighs just under 110kg so i cant see it breaking too easily if he rides it

i've done a bit more to the orion over this weekend,
i just need to fix a flat front tyre and swap rims, and swap the other rear tyre onto it
and pick up a new chain too.
almost ready to ride now

Good work mate, good bit of thinking gone into the frame mods and still looks like a standard bike. How does it ride with the changes, obviously comfort for you is better stability etc ok?

I've been riding my brother inlaws atomik proX lately and the ergonomics annoy **** out of me, always feel like I'm going to go over the hangers.

Good bump zorro, how has it held up craig, any current pics mate.

yey,
i can finally view my thread again!!!
wasnt able to since the site updates, and plenty of others that i wanted to see.
but looks like it's all sussed now/soon thanks to our mighty MM.

yeah the bike was pretty comfortable to ride, especially over longer distances.
it still could have done with some better suspension, tyres, bars etc etc
but it was built on a tight budget too.

currently, well the last 8 months or so,
it has been sitting in pieces, due to me picking up another project bike and pinching the engine from this one.
i've built up another motor for it out of pieces/spares i have sitting around, it's just a 125 Lifan though.
i am planning on selling this bike soon, to help fund some upgrades on the new bike, a 2011 Atomik Fuse 125.
picked it up for $120, it needed a new motor as the gearbox let go, taking the cases with it.

so the Orion hasnt realy changed in a while, but im stoked with how it performed when it was going.
hopefully someone will appreciate the frame mods etc that were done to it.

i'll get some pics in the next few days if i can, and post them up.

ps, my Galaxy S2 has died, (wont charge) im hoping a new battery will fix it.
im currently using my chinese copy? (if you can call it that) $50 Galaxy S3 try-hard phone
it is so far away from being a Galaxy that it's a bit hard to use sometimes.

i cant even find the original picture on photobucket, that i shrunk for my avatar back then?

here is a tiny pic, lol

anyway, updates will follow in the next coupla days...

cheers, craig
