DIY Exhaust Stuffing?

Has anyone used insulation out of a home or something of that sorts to stuff your old muffler... Or any other homemade things to add performance/ or make your bike quieter??

Motorcycle muffler packing is very cheap, why would you want to try such a thing ???

exhaust muffler packing is about $13 for a length that will repack most mufflers, so is cheap.

pink batts (insulation), works just as well too, just need to pack it a little tighter.
a thin layer of steel wool wrapped around the perforated tube first, keeps the insulation from being blown out of the perforations

I've used pot scrubbers which are just coarse stainless steel wool. They're cheap and won't catch fire.
