looks like she'll need a face lift with bigger valves say 34/27.2?

im wondering if the intake valve has broken at high rpms, and caused a chain reation of damage in the heads' chamber?
looks like the valve seat got punched out by bits of the broken valve?
pieces possibly ended up flying around inside barrel / chamber a few times at 5000rpms + ??
am guessing the piston would look about the same
will be interesting to find out what was happening moments before the big bang, clunk, crunch, grrrrrrr.....

how much is the head costing you to be repaired?
i would have thought it'd be cheaper to replace it?

cheers,
craig

Nice job , how did you manage that?

Gdfp sent this lil bundle of joy to me took the chains off said I could do what I want to it. I think he said what put the mass. Destruction in motion was the guy that owned before got it hot n the seat dropped

Takegawa head, so it's worthy of repair. Besides, Chad loves to fix blowed-up stuffs. S-cut piston turned sideways in the bore, helping him get the seats out. Haaa

Chad, TeflonMats did an 8.81 in the 1/8 mile, with a slipping clutch, and this big-valved job. Asphalt, so no body got run over;)

Not sure what set the chaos in motion maybe da gdfp can fill us in. Wanna say he said the guy he got the head off if said it got hot and dropped a seat first.

It will cost me parts and my hard labor ;-) yea for the most part if u tear up a head like this and you have to have someone do it buying a new head is will prolly be cheaper

It was on Tristin's bike, in TX, so I'm sure it was scalding hot. I have the piston, with mashed ring lands, so I think that was the primary. I'm sure he was floating the valves too. It could have popped the head off the valve first, too. Tak's will do that if the guides get real sloppy. Strong, but more brittle about the off-center seat bouncing. Either way, it was worn out and getting beat the whiz outta. MX'ers only look at their internals when they come out of holes in the cases. $300 freshen up would have saved a $1200 top end.

The up-side is, that Chad gets to work his magic on it without feeling bad about chopping up a good head. I have a tote of fragged Tak heads for when he's between major projects:banana:

wow thats shiney!!

NOT my work, BTW. That crazy Swede is about the only one besides Chad with that much patience and DrGuff's. I Hog 'em & Flog 'em!

its not only a repair it will also be performance minded :p 8.81 in the 1/8 eh? hmmm i think we should be able to get the record then if i can get this thing done in time.

lol ok so i may get a lil carried away and shine things that i really shouldnt. sex sells though terry.

<--- another project i need to get my arse in gear on. had to cut exhaust a lil deeper now i have plenty of clearances with the 68/69 cam

started roughing the chamber in tonight looks like a few spots need touched up. need to pick up some more gas for the tig so i can touch it up. im in the process of building a jig for klx heads so i can jig up faster and easier cause i have a feeling if this performs as well as i think it should terry will be sending me another one or two ;-)

Project XR-stocker-wink, is looking great. Glad the 69/68 Web will work. I may have a 69 around too. Clay owned the IL state champ 1/2 mile race and only has a couple more rides before the Tak mill comes back home for freshen-up. Molly put over half a lap on the 160 field too. Good time to send him a motor, when the #88 roller is sitting.

That +R wasn't lonely, in the Bin-O-Carnage:first:
Kibbies and bronze for it?
When it's closer, I'll send ya a set of Tak alloy rockers. Maybe you can make a little more room inside for getting them buggers in. Trickier to insert than a sober Freshman.

Looks like ill have to get a move on the stocker. Lol damn son sounds like they are doing well
Yup have to order some 1-1/2 C630 for seats I believe the 1/2" stock I have will be big enough for guides then shoot over some dimensions for Kibble to turn some as black diamonds with some good springs. And you then work the ports and chamber. I had thoughts of sinking further cause I think cam needs reground to take advantage of the roller eockers

thank you sir. were you still wanting the intake milled? i tell you what i have gained a new appreciation for the guys that weld mini head ports. even with the micro wand your left with virtually no room to work. most of the port i'm welding blind. then factor in the sand in the head i keep getting pock marks and pissing me off. after alot of fighting it didnt turn out to bad. lol cant sling a dead cat through it yet but its only roughed in as soon as i get word on what you had in mind as far as milling or not milling and seats are in the metal will fly ;-)

My cat's got a couple years left in him, if he doesn't keep getting me up at 4:30 for his morning Cool-Whip fix. Shame on me for giving him a shot while my coffee brews. lol
Don't sweat the pecker holes. It's a used head and the sand and embedded grease are a *****. Twisty had some time on it before the boom. I should have baked & boiled it for you

Yeah, I'd like to see the roof roll eliminated and the carb come in from the top, straight to the piston crown. CL chassis has a lot of room, so the 32/33 pumper can be above the valve cover. Some thing like Mats' is where I see it going. I don't want to stick a sponge in your creative juices. Did I just say that? Nope. It's 5:30. The ugly one. The morning one.

Rear-facing, like the tall & terrible setup I did for the Tak 4V is fine, too. LMK if you want to go that way, and I'll send a manifold or two to chop on. I gotta math the velocity and cam, come up with an intake resonance length, but figure I can let you do what you want and tune with velo stacks. Yeah?

hey ive had the same drama with a head is it very hard to get it all machined back once it is welded as im a welder by trade just not so savvy on the machining side of it
cheers

getting a good secure jig is the only pain in the d@ck. if can be done either in the lathe via face plate or if you have a big enough 4 jaw or mill. i typically deck mine via mill cause jig time is less.

on a side note maybe you may be able to give me some knowledge. with these case heads it seems like i always have a problem with pitting and its driving me flipping nuts. i have tried acetone, using a carbide and digging a lil bit i have tried different stick all with the same results when im done welding it looks fine but once i get the head decked to were its back to factory alumiunum lil pock marks.
