Hey everyone,

got a pit bike with a ducar engine in it. Was working fine untill it was power washed, went for a while then died.

Just put a brand new coil and ECU on it and it hasn't made any difference.

Anyone know what the output should be from the magneto and what the problem may be?

Its probaby the CDI. I washed my bike without the seat on it, and got water on the CDI, and then rode it and it fried the CDI.

Try replacing it and it will probably fix it.

This is the things with chinna's, you have to be very careful when washing your bikes,

1. avoid wetting any electrical components.
2. if possible cover with a plastic bag.
3.what ever you do do not ride your bike after you wash it, i leavemine out in the sun to dry and shammy off most of the water.

and yeah its more than likely you have fried your cdi unit, go onto ebay and replace it with one of those blue cdi units(race cdi units) bout the same price and you can only gain power with it.

Just checked ebay and realised I have changed the CDI just thought it was called a ECU (Enginge Control Unit).

So with a new CDI and coil fitten and nothing happening anyone got any ideas what it might be?

Checked with a mutlimeter for anything coming out of the magneto and it did register but not sure how much should be beig generated.

don't bother checking for voltage coming out of the magneto.....
pull the plug from the motor out of the cdi.
check the resistance between the green and black/red wire coming from the motor. the resistance should b around 350 ohms.
then check the resistance between green and blue/white, it should be about 130 ohms.
if that's fine, then try starting the bike with the kill switch disconnected, because it could be shorting out
make sure all the wires are crimped properly into the plugs
if its none of them then your cdi is dead

Ok I'll give that a go.

One other thing, when i tested for a circuit through the kill switch when it was closed (on) it didn't seem to be gettin one so i tried using a peice of wire to bypass the switch and make it continously on but didn't work. Don't know if that'll make any difference.

Cheers

Hi,

what does it mean if im not getting any reading between these?

im in a similar situation to OP :(

cheers.

if you use a peice of wire to bypass the switch it wont start.
the kill switch works by short cicuiting the spark plug onto the engine block, therefore no spark.

what do you mean i ride my bike after i was it all the time and my cdi stil works

slugger, if u r not getting any resistance between the wires then your stator is rooted.
and btw i got the resistances around the wrong way.
so it should be vice versa.

and yeah the kill switch is Normaly Open when the engine is running.

When I first got my ducar I had to reclamp and solder all of the pins in all of the plugs to stop it from breaking down since then I,ve run it through water and preasure washed it heaps of times and haven,t had any problems.
before you go spending a fortune replacing everything just check the wires into the pins

Cheers mate, im finally making some progress it seems, I have a new stator arriving tomorrow :D

And yeah, i got 313ohms between the green and red black.

Ducar 125cc Problems.

I had a Loncin engine in my pit bike then removed it for a Ducar engine. Do I have to change the CDI box because it is brackfiring alot when trying to give it throughtal. :(

writeback soon.

No the cdi will be fine but you may need to adjust the mixture screw on your carby.

Loncin - Ducar Cdi Problems :(

I have tryed that all ready but still no luck :(
It starts, runs at tickover then when trying to give throughtal it will pop and bang then cutts out ?! :(
Could the CDI be faulty with it backfiring then cut's out ?

writeback soon.

yes your cdi is mc f uked, this happend to mine, after wet riding, would kick over but it seemed the cdi's timing capabilty has been rooted by water, it would spluter, missfire and smoke from the airfilter (ignition when when intake valve is open) cause the timing of the spark was out due to the cdi beeing rooted.

replace old with new and ur all good.
