if ya don't want to use a socket, i just used an old stunt peg of my pushy. works a treat but u have to drill it out a bit and cut it a bit shorter;)

yet again you can just cut the little bit out the back off the muff it works a treat

Ive seen people do it a few different ways. Some have used an old piston from something like a CR80 and drilled holes in it. Others have used a hole saw like Numroe suggested. The good thing about ones like that is that you can drill in extra holes until you get to a level you are satisfied with or if your having restriction issues. Another one ive seen used a washer, some steel wool and a few pop rivets.
Theres a few vids on youtube showing different ways of making cheap and easy silencers.

dont forget the dude on youtube that jams a rag as hard as he can into the exhaust with a long screw driver

Step 1. Remember, "never sh!t where you sleep".
Step 2. Realise that while imitation is the highest form of flattery, not everyone is good at it...
Step 3. Bite the bullet and fork out a minimal amount of cash for a proper muffler.
Step 4. Replace current 'straight through' style 'Pro-circuit style' muffler with actual muffler.
Step 5. Receive praise from your neighbors.
Step 6. Sleep peacefully knowing that your neighbors are happy and your bike loves you.

:p

(Step 7. Smack the smug bastard from the forum when you meet him in real life and realise that he runs the noisiest, cheapest, straight through exhaust in existence ;))

I havnt seen that one and I wouldnt recommend using a rag lol. The theory behind his idea is correct but the rag part just wasnt very well thought out. People always mention restriction when talking about silencers and by jaming anything in the end of your muffler to make the hole smaller is bound to cause some restriction.

To make a bike quieter your muffler needs to be well packed and the idea is then for the exhausted air to flow through the packing which will muffle the sound along the way. Thats basically what the washer method does. If you havnt seen the washer method before its just a plain old washer that fits inside the baffle about half way down and is fixed in by a few pop rivets. That reduces the exhaust flow and the sound that would normally run straight threw the pipe and redirects most of it through the muffler packing instead before shooting it out the end of the muffler. Maximum flow with minimal restriction. There was a how to vid of it somewhere but I cant be bothered lookin for it right now.

i silenced my bike by putting layers of blue masking tape over the exhaust hole, then cutting a smaller hole into to the masking tape with a razor, works great prob less louder than a lawnmower!

just do this

hey, sorry if im posting a dead thread or something. but i did a similar thing to the socket, but an old 2 stroke tip welded to a plate. which worked. looking at car mufflers for my friend, i was thinking, if you rout it through a couple of smaller diam pipes keeping a similar area the whole way through, it would not get the back pressure when u rev it as bad. if no one has suggested this yet, anyway since im studying this stuff at tafe, ill give it a go.
