Is the purpose of an extended swing arm to allow a larger diamater rear wheel, or is it just to change the geomatry?

The overall length of mine is 390 mm
The gap between the tyre and the arm facing the shock is only 26mm ruling out a larger wheel.

I have seen a swing arm advertised that has an overall length of 490mm.

If this swing arm was able to be fitted - Dirt pit bike (midsize) 125cc 140cc swing arm - extend* (eBay item 270676392320 end time 05-Feb-11 20:13:34 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats Would it allow me to run a larger diamater wheel? Currently i have a 12'' rear wheel, (14/12 setup) and i wouldn't mind going to a 17/14 setup.

I need approx an extra 25 mm of clearance to fit a 14'' wheel provided i use a similiar profile tyre.

that swing arm looks like it's for a 14 " rear wheel
but then if you want a 17 front your going to need new front forks more then likely (longer front)
so yeah unless you want 14" 14" lol

Yeah i'm keeping my eye for a set of longer fronts. So long as there wouldn't be any issues with fitting a 14'' wheel then for $50 it seems like a reasonable deal...It would probably even be better quality than what's currently fitted lol

yeah probably better but i would just contact the seller and just double check with him

A longer swingarm helps the bike track better in a straight line , helps prevent unwanted wheelies during hard acceleration , and also helps you to slide thru corners ... They were a standard mod when doing up XR75's ... Lengthening the bike improved the overall handling ... One thing to watch out for is that it could also soften the ride via additional leverage over the shock/s ...
