Hey guys,
I've recently purchased my first pit bike- 2013 assassin 125cc.
I bought it for $250 and it wouldn't start.

Just thought I'd put a thread up with the issues and solutions I had to get it going in case it helps others.

Problems:
fouled plug
low compression
clutch slipping on kickstart
carby out of tune

At first i thought it may have had electrical issues as the zap i was getting from the plug wasn't a lot. I changed the plug and cleaned up the contacts and connections. Still not a great deal of zap when holding it but had a nice strong spark anyway.

I found that the compression loss was from the valve clearance (there was no clearance!!!) so adjusted that.

Still couldn't get it started because the clutch was slipping when trying to kickstart. Took off the cover and found that the adjustment was way out so tightened it back up.

FINALLY got it started then it was just a matter of playing around with the pilot screw as it was revving its guts out (**** of a spot on this carby) and eventually got it idling nicely.

So happy to having going, man its got some kick for its size! Hope this helps anyone who may be having the same problems.

Cheers

Also would like to say thanks to the guys who helped me troubleshoot in a previous post about this bike!
Great help guys:grinning-smiley-003

Got a couple of the the cam and rocker arms with the adjusting nut. As you can see I managed to bust the gasket while I was at it. Used locktite gasket seal while the new one comes

you didn't need to remove the top cover on the head to adjust your valves (cover with 4 bolts)
the 4x nuts that hold the cover on, also torque the head gasket down.

It's hard to find TDC and bottom (which I used to adjust the valves) without that cover off. What torque setting are most bikes? I don't have the manual

the tdc mark is on the flywheel, and the other marking is on the camshaft

the flywheel marking lines up with the mark in the engine case at 12 o'clock, camshaft gear mark lines up to the mark on the head at 9 o'clock.

the 125 Lifan heads are torqued up to a touch over 10 Ft Lbs, most cheap torque wrenches wont be that accurate though.
just do it up firm, if it leaks compression or oil, tighten it a touch more
