Looks like a little to much effort really but if you have all that stuff laying around then should be no problem with it. Basically you just want the temperature above stall out for the yeast ale yeast is 16 degrees I believe but you dont want it any lower than 18 degrees.

Nah seriously those heat pads are perfect, lots of people say their not on the HB forums.... I discovered if you layer towels on top of it it will heat up the whole towel, and you can vary the temperatures by a fair few degrees. I used to have my old set up in the cold ontop of a wooden board too. To keep it off the floor so the whole board used to heat up to around 20degrees. Then I just wrap a couple of blankets around the fermenter and it should stay within the perfect range! Those heat pads are self regulating. You can also use the reptile ones but they are a little cooler at about 23 degrees. Can pick them up for around $10-$15 for a little 30cm x 30cm one!!

Did you put them on the base or wrap around the fermenter? Also i just found this, wanna go halves ;)
Draught Beer Brewing Equipment - China 50l Beer Equipment, Beer Brewing Machine

Put heat mat flat on ground (or on a board what ever to keep it off the freezing tiles or concrete), lay a towel over the mat, fermenter then sits on top of the towel. Then wrap blankets around the outside of the fermenter!

I have a photo on fb somewhere hang on I'll see if I can find it!

timmeh you can get liquid malt at the supermarket!! Big secret...I got the most people ever at one time to log into the thread I started on Coopers home brew page. The end result the malt at the supermarket is normally sourced from breweries. It comes out the same price at $9 per 1l as the stuff from the homebrew shop. In my experience its amber malt liquid malt that you get from the supermarket. Its usually near the honey...have you ever tried that instead of sugar? You can use liquid cane sugar as well! Mix as you will...it will taste different depending on the sugar you use!! Same idea as fruit!

^Yum :) Finally got the apple one brewing, Coopers Canadian blonde & yeast + 1kg light malt + 1/2kg of brown sugar and don't forget 4kg freshly juiced apples, strained and boiled for about 10-15mins. Will see how it goes.

Good cause you're going to need some help with that canadian blonde coops make....probably their worst kit imo, tries a bit hard to taste like a lager....I've used that mix twice and never since. Was perfectly made just tasted like rubbish :( Should be a fair base for that mix if you used your yeast?? I think the yeast is the real problem with that one!!

^Crap i used the yeast that came with it :( Considered using my good stuff but thought it might be a bit wrong for what i was after. oh well, shall see what happens, after all it's all science experiments :) anything could happen :)

Thats it mate! Thats why I love making beer, its science with the best possible outcome, CHEAP BEER!!!

Well I did try to mix it in winter and the temps were all wrong, but it may just be my taste buds too....Its a little sweet for me,being an IPA lover and all so it should probably work well for what you're going for! Did you do a yeast starter or just throw it in on top??

Chucked it in on top. Probably should of done a starter being that it expired sometime last year, but oh well, it was bubbling the next day so should be right ;)

Perfect timing Stoozo, a coupe of months ago I was diagnosed with coeliac disease. This means I can't tolerate gluten and gluten is in EVERYTHING GOOD including BEER! Now you can buy gluten free beer but the cost is about $70 a carton. Way to much for someone who enjoys beer as much as me, so I paid a visit to Barley Corn Brewers just down the road from me in Huntingdale and spoke to the owner Dave who believe it or not is coeliac. BCB is a real flash setup for brewing your own beer and I'm now brewing gluten free beer and putting it in cans for $39 a carton and it tastes great.
Now it gets interesting because the next batch will be put into old pepsi cordial kegs and plumbed into a fridge with a couple of taps on the front so I can have a GF cider in there as well for my girl. I have the fridge and the kegs and will start work on the fitout in the next week or so and will post pictures of the build if anyone is interested. A GF alcoholic ginger beer would be nice. Bring it on I'm genuinely excited,
Cheers Greg.

If anyone is interested here is the new fridge. I changed plans and put the beer into a 50L keg and have plumbed the fridge to take another 20L keg of cider. After a couple of sessions I've got it sorted and it now pours beautifully. The signs are held on with magnets so the look can be changed and the orange one one the front will hold a label with the name of the latest brew, all tongue in cheek the latest is called "DR Nick's nightmare" a reference to my long suffering Doctor and my liver function test results.
In my last post I mentioned that Gluten free beer was $39 a carton, but that is for 500ml cans! Bloody cheap and good beer.

DR Nick's Nightmare hahahaha. I like it.

Sounds like me pouring dequilia shot's.

What a dead set epic setup. Going to do the same thing but with a mini bar fridge so I can get the setup under a bar and have the pipes going to top of bar.

Then it's time to start brewing again. Been 10 years but keen to get back into it.

^^^^ To Queensland???? :)

pppfffttt. VIC if you want all the riding spot's you could ask for ;)

Hahaha and the homebrew thread takes off! Ive been really slack! Need to get a brew on asap, ive got clean bottles and everything just to much bike hassles taking up all my time!

You know nick you can just use an old fridge and drill a hole in the front and run a tap that way! I have a bar fridge I got for $50 that should be big enough for two 19l kegs. The only problem is cold conditioning but I think I can fit the fermenter in the big fridge! Will have to get onto that build soon! Stout has has the $60 per carton...prices here are nuts!
