Hey guys need some help,

I went on a holiday last week and came back to my girlfriends house were i leave my bike to find a few problems with it, obviously someone from her family etc have ridden it without asking and stuffed it up...

I noticed when i went to start it, it took alot longer than normal, and it seems to be missing when i kicked it, by missing i mean it "slipped" when i kicked it, usually starts first kick took about 10 and just felt like it was "slipping" and when it slipped it made sort of a cracking noise....

Once i got it started it seemed to run fine just not sure what it is, any help would be much appreciated...?

P.S i turned it off then tried again same cracking/slipping thing happening and took a while to start, i also noticed the kick start arm is bent back a bit looks like it has had the **** kicked out of it.....

first VALVE CLEARANCES... I'm only gonna say it once

second, you might wanna take off your clutch cover and see if there's any teeth missing off the kickstart gears YouTube - How to fix broken Kick start gears, Lifan 140, Pit Bike engine

thanks for the quick response, ill double check the valve clearances tomo....

im suspecting its broken teeth on the kickstart gear like in the video, no way i can fix it as i have no tools and no mechanical skills :(

Will it damage my bike if i dont get it fixed and just keep kicking it, or does it need to be fixed and how much do you think my local moto shop would charge...?

Thanks again

they will charge ALOT, if you live in vic I could do it for ya.

but basically if you have cracked kickstart gears you will large chunks of metal floating around your engine. And if you keep kicking it you'll most likely break off more teeth. But those chunks of metal seem to stay down the bottom of the sump so you might be ok if you just leave it

if you keep kicking it chances are it will break the engine case(if it hasnt done so already)

get it fixed ASAP or leave in the shed till you do fix it

adjust the clutch, some bikes use 1st gear to engage the crank to start, if the clutch adjustment is out of whack the clutch will slip as your kicking it, happened to me for a while, learn from it.

i think he is referring to the pitpro in his sig, which should be a start in any gear engine..
hard starting engines from the clutch is for the crank mounted clutch engines...

if iv missed your point let me know..

Ahh yes forgot about this, now i think of it, most of the new motors would be start in any gear now ay.

my pit pro has only been ridden 3 times, it starts fine but as soon as i touch the the throttle it conks out. any suggestions on the cause?

you probly have the choke on

plus you need to set your valve clearance and tune the carby if you want it to run properly..... plus seal the manifolds and sort the exhaust gasket and studs

It's the kicker gears ... Some idiot has been starting your bike the wrong way ...

My relo Davo bought a near new GT150 bike for $200 ... it has a Lifan 150 Daytona style engine in it ... The kick start lever was twisted backwards ... and on tear down we found that the gear behind the clutch had teeth off in several spots ... the idler gear was also damaged by the broken teeth ... but the cases and the kick shaft gear were still OK ...

I took a DHZ 140 kickstart gear replacement set down there and it fitted the LF150 spot on ... The reason WHY it broke was that some tool was kicking it wrong and it had a Lifan 140 flywheel and stator fitted in it ...

Analogue ignitions are junk and are too advanced at kickstart cranking speeds ... when the chinkos increased the cc's and the stroke they should have also modified the ignition system's advance curve to suit ... big bore , long stroke , high compression engines require LESS static advance than a small bore , short stroke engine ... which also happens to have lower overall compression ... analogue may be fine for a stock 50/70/90/107/125 ... but they are wrong for anything bigger ...
