Hi does anyone know if a high rev cdi unit would make the bike any quicker and better performance?
Because im not sure if i should buy one or not:confused:

It wont make it quicker, it will maybe depending on the brand you buy ... make the bike get to top speed a tad quicker, and give better throttle response but , it depends on the brand..

eichkay are u saying it might only give it better responce or it defenatly will?

i have recently purchased a Takegawa Hyper CDI and its genuine but its in post will this be any good

You can buy CDI's that are crap and you can buy CDI's that are good... and from what i can see most of you guys on this site frequent ebay ... so i doubt the CDI's will be any better than a stock unit, other than rev limiter removed, the good brand name units seem to have a different advance curve to the stock units..

I've had a TrailBikes CDI and that went well... but it blow up a year later and then i got a takegawa unit to replace the TB unit but sold it before i try'd it out because i brought a IRK. Which has its own CDI

how much will the good ones cost and where do u buy them from?

Still havent seen a limited stock china cdi yet. Have tested quite a few. The rev limit is in the intake/porting/exhaust.

^^ The stock thumpstar unit i have was limited at 8800, wouldn't go any higher... and the kitaco unit went upto 12000 on the same road and still had more to go but i thought 12000 was enuff.

i have fitted the takegawa cdi and there is more throttle response and more mid range power i belive real brands acually do sumfin

Yes I am sure some of the early thumpstars had limiters, same as honda's, but a non limited cdi was produced a fair while back and has been used ever since. The new stock cdi was probably copied off one of the 'name' brand cdi's and is now a $20 part.

EDIT The range of aftermarket cdi's will have differing advance curves and will change the power delivery at different points in the rpm range, but without extensive testing who knows what each one is doing or if it is better suited to your particular build over another?

Can we reprogram our own CDI Rev box ??
Plug to a PC with cable and a program to see setting ?
