Hi, have a Honda crf100f think it might need a new gearbox or might just need service.
When I am in 2nd the bike feels like it is in 3rd and when I am in 3rd feels like the bike is in 2nd and so on. Any one know what the problem might be?
Thanks

Probs already done , but have you took it in for a basic service and asked where ya brought it from , otherwise Sus eBay or Honda dealership for engine spares mate

What does that part do?
How much do you think a general service would cost? And what does a general service normally include?
Thanks (sorry about all the questions new to owning a bike)

its a gear drum, its the component responsible for shifting gears in the correct pattern. complete engine disassembly needed to fit it... i wouldnt be jumping to conclusions yet..

bent shift lever shaft, clutch issue (some how)

how long have you had this bike? have you never had it serviced before?

service prices vary due to parts prices...

Hi, got the bike secondhand about a month ago. the guy baught it new from a dealership in 2007 so it is an 07 model, I haven't got it serviced yet not sure if the guy before did. Do you think it would be worth getting it serviced, if so just a general service?
Thanks again mate

Thanks mate, from what I have said do you have an idea of what the problem might be?

Gear drum from what everyone else is sayin , take to a bike mechanic and get them to have a look is the way to go mate

Sounds good I will probally take to honda and get a general service and tell them about it
Thanks

Do you think the service and and new gear drum would cost much?

i cant see how it could be the geardrum... going by the description of your problem anyways...

when you go to get a service tell them about the problem and get hem to diagnose the problem before a service.. otherwise your going to have to pay for a service and still have a problem engine....

have you checked you chain tension, sprocket condition??

Yeah I just adjusted the chain and all that a couple if of days ago

As Sean says it 'aint the shift drum (There'd be jumping out of gear , false neutrals or crunching going on if it was). Maybe it's possible the previous owner has pulled the tranny to bits and put gear sets on the shafts in the wrong position causing the ratio switch around ? ... I know for a fact that you can put gears on around the wrong way and cop false neutrals (recessed side of a gear instead of the flat faced side facing the dogs on the mating gear ... on a PK Racing 5 speed tranny conversion for the 4 speed XR's)

To check if there really IS a ratio sequence alteration , run through the gears with the bike on a stand and the rear wheel off the ground ... Set the engine to a fast idle then go through the gears slowly to see if the rear wheel turns faster with each upshift ...
