you need a valve spring compressor, simalar to a g camp, i would suggest you read any kind of 4-stoke manual for the how 2's off valve spring removal.

Hi Epod.Just take your cylider head to an engine re-conditioning shop. They will take the valve springs ,collets etc off for a few bucks for their social club fund. When you need them re-fitted just do the same.It is cheaper than buying a valve spring compressor,a tool you will probably never use again. Also less chance of damaging the valve stem seals or worse bending a valve..

Cheers 4stroke manual is a good idea.

It's gona go like a rocket thanks to advice found on this site and from Ranukar of Akunar in thialand who has been heaps of help with parts. Just gotta do some mild port work to the head and wack in the high comp piston next week, making it 134cc. The stock springs seem to short for the high lift cam so just waiting on some longer one's from akuna.
Cheers, anybody know how much the tool ( spring compressor) is worth? Do they come in diff sizes.

Thanks marrylands

Thanks for the advice, I think I shall take the head to the bike shop in cooma on monday, get them to remove the springs.

Epod. You dont need or use "longer valve springs" when fitting a high lift or performance cam.In fact usually performance springs have less coils per length [but stronger PSI rating]and are about the same free length as a STD spring to allow for the extra cam lift to prevent coil binding at full valve lift.

Ps ..We only use longer springs in cylinder heads when we have had to use longer valve stem lengths or deepened the valve spring seat recesses in the cylinder head to compensate for Radical cams with massive increases in valve lift .

Valve springs compressors come in quite a few sizes and styles.Pricing from $20.00 to $650 for one we have It is a Pneumatic Heavy v/spring compressor nescesary for Triple valve springs fitted to Keith Black hemis etc

Top dead centre.

Hello again. So the problem I have is that the valves are slightly open with the 6.9ml lift cam cam at top dead centre. Could I jsut have the cam out off centre slightly. May this be the problem. I just thought the springs were not long enough. I shall take a photo in the morning to show what I mean.
Cheers epod.

yeah thats the go i let us see whats happening:) but i think you might have the wrong cam maybe :( but i am prob wrong

dope, dope, dope

I'm just a dope sometimes, I had the cam in upsidedown so that why both valves were open. Now it is perfect valves closed cam at top dead centre.
Cheers fella's.

Did you mean you had the cam timing out by 360 degrees?
