So i thought i would change the oil tonight. Seeing 2 sump plugs i just assumed one was for oil and that the other one was for the gear box.

This was until i undid the one i thought was the gear box and out came a spring and something else. Thinking that's not right i jumped on google and found out that it was actually the cam shaft tensioner i had undone.

Do i just pop the spring and the other bit back in? A small amount of oil came out with it, is it a specific type of oil?

Help is much appreciated, oh and feel free to laugh at me for being an idiot !!:iamwithstupid:

Chuckle complete. Now, stuff steel steel sleeve in, rubber tip first. Then tight-wound end of spring. Compress with bolt, ensuring crush washer is in place. Kick over slowly a few times to recharge the oil-filled mechanism. Have a good laugh. Ride.

The rod that came out is for your timing chain tension, as Terry said..If it goes back in the way it came out then you should have no probs.

I put the rod and spring back in as advised and it went ok. It started straight away as per usual, but as i left it to run, the idle became higher. The idle was high enough to make going into first very rough.

I haven't touched the carb so i've sort of excluded it from being part of the problem.

I did use a 10-50 semi synthetic oil on the re-fill, which i know i shouldn't be doing but it's until i can get to the servo later.

Any ideas on the high idle?

nothing mentioned in here would give the high idle problem.
check the the choke hasnt been left on, throttle cable is not tight or has a kink in it, air leaks

It seems to have sorted itself out. It was quite low on fuel so i toped it up and now everything is fine.

Directly above where the tensioner spring came out there is a screw similiar style to where the dipstick is. Should i be putting an oil in there or does it share oil with the rest of the motor?
