Hi guys & Gals,
I've visited a few times over the last few years but haven't have the need to post before.
I want to put one of these:- PitsterPro z160 HO Engine into a postie and, if possible, keep it registered.
Any thoughts?

hahaha ive done this with an old 83 postie with the 125 thumpstar engine went pretty good man.i had to make engine mounts as they were different maybe because it was alot older not sure man haha

theres mine... its the ag model so i am going to buy a adr complianced frame and put my lifan 150 in it while i rebuild the original engine (with high and low gearing)

Well you need to get it engineered I believe for it to be legal, I think someone on here mentioned that it was extremely easy and cheap to have it engineered which avoids you being worked over by the police :)

and there is a $100 dollar "conversion kit" so you can mount postie pegs on Chinese engines

register it with the stock motor in...
then you call up vic roads and say your engine blew up and you have put in a replacement... all that they will be interested in is the numbers and the cc aslong as you did not have to modify the engine mounts because the frame is what they care about so to speak

Thanks to all.
It's registered now and I've found these premade adaptors.

I'm assuming the Z160 supports battery charging so I'll only really have to deal with the carby and exhaust.
I'm going to try the "engine swap" route whilst it's still registered. I think the capacity increase will make it tough though.
My main worry is getting a reasonably quiet exhaust built.

Where is this available from, do you know?

i saw one the other day, now i cant seem to find it..

with the lighting.. im not sure about the z160 having a lighting coil.... but you can just change the cdi to one that supports battery charging

Might wanna look at the Lifan 140, i pretty sure these come setup for lighting, from memory the YX and Z motors don't but a stator and cdi change should sort you out.

Edit: Just notice DHZ are selling a YX150 with E-Start and ligting coil... Could be a great place to start if you don't already have a engine lined up.

Allright fellas,

I bought 2 Posties.
I own 8 collectable cars and 2 CAMS logged racecars, so, I am not an idiot.
I make my living as an electronics technician though I have several other degrees.

This is now an exercise to document and enable a std pit motor to a Postie.
with other associated mods.
I will do a "detune 125 and a screacher which will start with a 160HO.

It will take about 6-9 months so don't troll about no progress, the world spins, but slowly.
The document will assume the following:-

1. an ex Aus post 25-30k bike. [CT110]

2. the ability and resources to at least keep an R/C car alive for a few years.

3. the ability to drive and understand a Multimeter

4. A good set of reasonable tools.

5. Space to leave your baby when you have to wait for a part.

6. MOST IMPORTANT...
a plan.
6a If you want a cool street cruiser with a bit of grunt and fairly good manners on the road, that will mean you'll work with my groove.

6b Off roaders might take on board what I'm doing and I can see developing a pair, but off road is not my baby.

7 On the way I hope to get approval for some of the smaller engines as direct replacements for "Posties" so if I can get "type approval" and a qualified source for the adapters, then I could offer an ADR approved changeover kit.

Most conversions are killed by the ADR compliance, if I can get a generic pass for a series of motors then the upgrades would become as easy as a new rego inspection.

Not too hard, just a few weeks in the shed and a few weeks with a lawyer/ engineer.
The displacement means there is no emission control but the power to weight will have to be surfed a bit. (It wouldn't be too hard to make a Postie NOT learner legal)

We'll see how we go.
Expect an update in 2-3 weeks and once or twice a week after that.
We have the bikes, we have the budget, we have the shed, we have the desire.
Now we might write a book and make Posties the new cool. ( I always thought they were better than a Vespa anyway).

Low bars, shiny trim, GOOD paint, 'sano looks...

I think POSTIES need a segment?

Bye for now.

yeah if i were you i would go with the yx150cc engine from DHZ, such a good engine and would a a whole lot more powerful than stock! plus E-start and Lighting support comes standard on that engine!

I'm thinking this one would rock.

It seems to have all of the boxes ticked and the details are where I'll need some help.
I understand chain size is different?
Carby Jet settings might tax the grey matter a bit.
A cool exhaust is an issue. I might try and get one made that goes under the belly as it will be for on road only. Like the sport bikes.
Thanxs everyone for your input I'll let you all know how it goes as I'll be the project getting underway in a few weeks.
