hi,
does any one know the importation rules, for if i wanted to import bikes things like taxes/dutys and what fourms need to be filled out ?

cheers brad

yes they are too much to worry about unless your importing a few then selling them.
you will get hit with:
(the cost of the product and the shipping ofcorse)
then it will be import tax for any value over 1000 bucks
then it will be quarantine
then holding costs
then customs import fees or some ****.
it can be very expensive

**edit** also one of the guys i buy most my bits off imports bikes and supplies to alot of shops on the goldie had 2 container held for quarantine purposes cost him 19K for 20 days. (thats $19,000.00) because the brake pads or something.

yeah do you have any idea how much of a ***** it is dragging every bike out of a container and taking the clutches out just because some pen pusher find one tiny little bit of asbestos in em

**** of a job i tell ya takes a day to do a container of bout 40 bikes and that's with 4 blokes on it

customs storage is about $900 a day per container mind you add a month of that onto your freight bill then try and sell a bike under a grand

sucks a bit

Its unpredictable, customs can hold your container for as long as the like really. You have no control what so ever, I think you usually get 3-5 days from when it lands to be cleared. Any longer and they charge you storage fee's. My last 20ft container was held 2 extra days for "customs delays" and I was charged extra $400 it is ridiculous maybe they should get more people on the job down at the port to get through the containers quicker so it doesnt put us out of pocket for their mistakes and delays.

what if i were to order one bike, and on the paper work it would have the value of $900.00 written on it and was sent via EMS (air express) ?

ems for a bike would be hell expensive!
i got quoted 600 usd for a mini bike.
but yes 900 would be fine... alot of the chinese under quote it anyways...:D which is good

yes i got quoted the same at one place and 300 at another place,
so do you think i wont have to pay any dutys and taxes and custom fees and all that type of stuff ? because the china person will write the bike down for $900 ?:D

You get hit with GST ... then customs fees ... and since GST is a goods and SERVICES tax , they add the shipping cost etc to the taxable value ...

I got slugged on a model train bought from Florida back when the exchange rates were bad and the non taxable limit was only $500 AUD ... the shipping cost pulled it over $500 since the set was only $430 AUD ... Then customs got me for an extra $67 ...

Apart from all the clearance costs and freight and shipping fees and the original cost to purchase. You will need to get Import Approval for ANY VEHICLE including offroad from the Department of Transport prior to shipping or you may get held up waiting for it.
