I have a couple of interesting (at least to me) questions.

I thought i had a Z50A K0 but now I'm not sure. It has only one handle and that is the front break. It has a rear brake peddle on the right. It has a gear shift and no cluctch(?) at leasst that I can find. What is this? All the pictures I see of K0 have two handles one for each brake.

Here's my interesting problem. I took the bike apart running and did a 90% rebuild. I removed the flywhieel with no problem and replaced the coils, poiints, condenser and reinstalled the flywheeo. While checking for spark I flound the flywheel rubbed substantially and started to remove it to check for problems. It would not come off again. I used substantial pressure with a wheel puller in the flywheel slots along with tapping and screwdrivers. Godd news? It doesn'e rub any more.

Secondly and here is my ignorance showing perhaps. When activating the kick starter, the rear tire rotates but not the flywheel nor the engine. When turning the flywheel by hand, the engine and the rear tire rotate. I cannot change the gear to neutral or anyother position.

I thought this was an automatic clutch. If so, why a gear shift? Where is the clutch? I seem to have some basic confusion here.

Thanks for any help

Steve

the engines in these bikes are whats called semi-automatic.. automatic clutch with manual gears..

you say you did a 90% rebuild, can you outline everything you did and how far down you stripped the engine!!

some pictures would help too..

check out BikePics and search thru the z50 listing in there, you will find the model in no time

as for the kick starter turning the wheel but not the engine, id say your clutch is over adjusted or maybe even assembled wrong..
gear shifter not working could also be a assembly problem altho there usually pretty straight forward and fool proof..

Thanks for the answers Sean.
The 90% rebuild refers to all but the engine. I did nothing to the engine because it was running fine.
I repaired the gas tank and used KBS coatings to recoat, repainted the tank. Down to frame with frame repaint. Removed wheels and removed major rust and repaired some holes and repainted. Cleaned and polihed hubs, brakes, etc. Fenders refurbished, forks cleaned and repainted. Engine simply cleaned. Did not remove shifter or kick starter just remvoed flywheel and replaced coils and condenser, points were fine. New wiring harness and all cables (the little thing was in a fire.)

I can not remove the flywheel again, it is stuck so that the puller will not remove it. However the flywheel is no longer rubbing so it may be alright but it seems that one would have to remove it sometime.

The serial number is Z50A - 1010303 I thought that was a K0 but someone said it was a softail built in 72-78.

I have attached a partially disassemble picture. I'm afraid disassembled is all that I have.

Thanks
Steve
