Ok so I guess this story starts way back in 06 when I was racing a thumpstar and getting fed up with constant reliability dramas I started working on a Honda race engine. I got as far as a crf50 motor with (classified) edit
Then at the mini nats at Carrara I crash and blew out my knee (again) I was off work for ages with no income. I had to sell all my gear just to pay some bills. Racing was all over for me.
Part of my for sale ad..
After all the money I'd just dropped in this short motor I couldn't bare to give it away for next to nothing. So me and Boxy came up with a plan to stick a stock top end on it and I'd stash it in my daughters little china 70.
Years later I got that itch and bought myself Howies twin cam LXR. We were chatting one night and he told me how he's building a stocko roller and just needed a motor. I told him about the awesome little sleeper gathering dust in an unused bike in my shed and I would sell it to him for a few hundis. But when I pulled it out, blew some dust off and got it to fire up again I felt I really wanted a stocko. Weeks had gone by with me and Howie constantly postponing a time when he'd come buy the thing. I ended up telling him I don't wanna sell it, I wanna build it. He come to the realization he had no time in his busy life to build it, let alone ride it. So the new deal was on.! Now I'm buying his roller...
I head on over to his to pick up a big pile of parts. Cleaned out his shed (1of them) of all his mini bike parts. It was a bit of a chonda roller but there was enough there and mostly Honda to get something going
Here's the pile of parts I had to start with
I had a few broken bones but first opportunity to cut the cast off and swing some spanners I was in there
I was really tempted to use the pitster frame. It's a neat and strong looking frame and this one, although its been braced and strengthened the subframe is on the piss. But it just had to be the least chonda as possible.
Scored a Yoshi along the way, almost makes Howies idea of a little ktm lookalike look good... Nah, I hate the orange.
The Sano dress kit does help a **** load tho.
It actually runs better and is way more neighbor friendly with a spankin new stock pipe I scored. I'll save the yosh for later
