Hello guys so I have a razor mx500 . brand new batteries installed on it , and want to add a few led strips . I once found an 12v led strip on ebay for $3, that i installed into an xbox and it literally lit up a room so brightly. want to do the same on the bike , but my knowledge of electricity is very faint to none .

I seen some projects on how people used batteries & housings from batteries powered tools ( drills saws etc ) .
I thought the idea was great being there not so heavy and compact and pack 18v in most cases (i believe that's adequate enough for a few strips correct?)

from here i am lost . how may i break down the voltage in strips and connect them to this battery .

i would imagine all spliced ends would be joined before the leads to the battery housings ? do i have to get multiple strips with less voltage that would add up to 18v? or may i add a few 18v strips ? How do i utilize the battery power so i am not charging the battery so much ?

ALL HELP AND OPINIONS ARE APPRECIATED .

Welcome to Miniriders.

What voltage is your bike ? eg what doe's it say on the charger?

You could just run the light's off a step down convertor, they are pretty cheap off ebay etc
You'd just need a small plastic box to protect it
DC DC HRD Converter 24V 36V 48V Step Down TO 12V 3A Switching Power Module | eBay
Jiffy Box - Clear - 83 x 54 x 31mm | Jiffy | Plastic Boxes | Enclosures & Panel Hardware | PRODUCTS | HB6005 | Jaycar Electronics

Jaycar would most likely have a step down convertor in kit form too if you are handy with a soldering irn.
I would get one that can handle 2 Amps.

would you happen to have an example diagram , i am handy with a solder iron . i do own a rework station .
Id like to run off the 18v drill battery . What voltage LEDs do i use?
How many LEDs may i use?

Oook if my advice is welcome coming from an electronics repair past ect...... I have this bike....with broken plastics lol but heck the three batt are connected in series to make 36 vs parallel for higher amp 12 ....I'm tired from 13hr night and 10 he day shift bear with Me lol step down converters are a god way to do this if you don't have solder ect get solderless terminals and just piggyback the pos and neg wires lol most led strips contain circuitry with a resistor built in to regulate current add a fused link and it may work
