In a nutshell, the motor has very little time on it and used to run very good. Now that I put the motor in its new frame Im having trouble getting it to run properly. The Coil, plug, CDI, Rectifier, and wiring is all brand new. The fuel is very fresh, the carb has been cleaned several times. Also, I have checked valve clearance and timing and set the throttle needle and float levels to their proper setting. What happens is...when I eventually get it started (and I say eventually because it usually takes a while) it will Idle okay. However, when I try to give it any throttle it will bogg and cut out and sputter and have absolutely no power. My question is, should I be looking at the carb? Or should I be looking at the CDI? The CDI that's on there now is only a 4 wire (previously I had a 5 wire)...but from I can tell, the 5th wire only acts as a kill switch. The carb is one of the only parts on the motor that I have yet to replace, but I would like to figure out if thats the problem before shelling out the cash for a new one.

Any help would be appreciated!!

yes its the carby mate...
my bike when i got it did that (a lil less drasticly) and all it turned out to be was bad ching chong chuning (tuneing).
might just be some sht in the carby.
thanks,
james

nope it will be the cdi
4 wire cdi runs on a dc system
5 wire cdi runs on a ac system

so unless you are clued on when it comes to wiring and want to do a few mods
best to get a 5 wire cdi

4wire

hope that is of some help

they all use AC voltage, there is no rectifier for the ignition.

id check all your grounding points with a multimeter and have another look at a wiring diagram.

ive had this problem with my old mini, the CDI was semi-cactus, replace with a new one and hey hey all good.

OK, Ill start by replacing the CDI with a 5 wire and giving the carb one more cleaning and Ill report back. Thanks for the replies!

sorry to say dabomb but look at the schematics and tell me where the 4 wire gets its power from

last time i checked ya dont get ac after a bridge rectifier

i will put my left nut on the line and say change ya cdi back to what the harness
was wired to have and she will run right

there could be something im not seeing but that cdi seems to be
setup to run on dc not ac

just found this Hooper Imports Experts on Chinese Motorcycles and Parts, Engines

and well there all the same to 4 wire running on dc not ac

ive had this problem with my mini ,id check all my grounding points with a multimeter and discover that i have no ground to the engine...once.
second time my ignition coil decided its time to go...both times same symptoms.

i had the same problem once and it was a
5 wire cdi on a harness that was ment to have a 4 wire

and well apart from that i can read a schematic and that
tells me its not going to work right changing from 5 to 4 wire cdi

i may olnly be a spry painter now and your thinking what would a painter
know about electronics but i have done a certificate II in electro-technology servicing

so im not just having a stab in the dark here

**UPDATE**

Its been a while since this problem came up, but I have since resolved it. Basically, I purchased all new electronics (CDI, regulator, etc) and sat down for 9 hours with some wire and a soldering gun and completely rebuilt my wire harness. All my hard work and several solder iron burns later...bike fired up and ran perfect 1st shot. To this day Im still not sure what the problem was...but at this point I don't really care as long as I can ride my bike around. Thanks for the replies and the supplied diagrams as they helped me in my quest. I will post up some pictures of the bike after my fuel tank is complete.

The bike is a Baja Heat MB165 with a Honda 110cc 4-spd swap by the way...
