Hi all

I am after some help with my Lifan 125cc bike. I purchased the bike 2nd hand of a relo so i know its history and it was fine. I went for my first ride on it yesterday and it went faultlessly all day around a 32 acre property. Was riding it reasonably flat out for maybe 15-20 seconds at a time. Towards the end of my ride the engine became underpowered all of a sudden, made some metallic rattling noises. So i stopped and the engine cut out. After it stopped i tried to start it again not knowing too much and the kick start appeared jammed. Seized maybe? On the long walk back i decided to try again as the bike had cooled and the engine would now kick over but not start. Upon loading back on the trailer i noticed some oil coming from one of the oil lines from the cooler. Odd i thought so i checked the oil in the motor and the dipstick was showing nothing. The oil level was fine when i started riding as i did check As a result the bike now wont start at all. It does have some compression. I have pulled it down as much as i am confident to do and it all appears normal. I wasnt able to check internals as i couldn't figure out how to get the barrell off. I also noticed that in neutral the bike moves freely but in gear with the clutch in it has some resistance i never noticed before. Only in gear with clutch in. Clutch out it drags the rear until u put weight on it then it turns with compression. I have tried "start ya *******, a new plug, and pulled the carby off and cleaned it. Any help would be appreciated at the moment i am thinking it is terminal i.e seized or something. Sorry for the long post but thought the more info i supply the better a response i may get.

Thanks for any help.

Sounds like its soft siezed. Very likely there is internal damage; bearings, rings. As a bodge id put fresh oil in, turn the engine over a lot then drain to flush, then new oil and a prayer... Oh and do you hav spark? Resistance when pushing in gear with the clutch in is normal.

theres a how to now to show you how to take the barrell off.id go with gawain. id say all the oil has leaked out of the oil lines. or it could have been burnt of a little aswell. umm i guess you could always buy a new one lol there not dear.

um quik way of chekin if it was burnt off id look at the muffler. if theres black wet oilly stuff. your rings were stuffed

Thans for the help guys. Yes it does have spark. I shall pull it down during the week and inspect it and weigh up the cost of any damage and the cost of a new motor and let you know what happens
