G'Day Guys,
I am going for my motorbike learner permit in november and will be ready to buy a bike in the newyear.
Currently I am looking at the Megelli 250R:

It is a European designed, Chinese manufactured bike. The earlier models had a heap of problems which I hear have been rectified since then.
I have been tossing up between this and the Yamaha YZF-R125 but I think that I may go for the Megelli because:
-It's Cheaper
-Better Aftermarket support
-Carbureted 250cc
I know that the build quality and ride of the Yamaha will be far superior as will the resale value but I love the idea of the Megelli because it is like a blank canvas. Because it is carbureted and runs a standard chinese CDI there is a fair amount that I can do to it right from the beginning whereas the Yamaha is fuel injected and requires a Power Commander to remove the rev limiter, making it a very expensive exercise to extract any additional power.
Fastace also make a direct bolt-on front and rear suspension package for the Megelli and I am sure that I will be able to find a bore kit for it somewhere.
As the resale value is worse for the Megelli it is likely that I will keep it when I upgrade to a bigger bike so that it can be used as a fun little dedicated track bike.
What I wanted to know is, has anybody on here had much experience with the Megelli 250r and/or their engines?
Also, what sort of upgrades would you recommend for later down the track? Im sure that there is a wealth of knowledge available here for Chinese 250cc engines
