I'm planning to turn a CRF50F into an adventure bike. Main problem is the tank.
1st. Does anyone know what the standard range is for a CRF50F?
2nd. Has anyone ever put a long range tank on this or any other mini?
3rd. Has anyone ever seen any pictures of a mini-adventure bike?
Reason for CRF50 choice is weight (I need to be able to lift it).
Any info is good info.

Don't want to sound stupid but what exactly is an "Adventure Bike"?

check out his link meko!

Good luck with the journey steve, keep us updated on your whereabouts!!

Lost On Earth

best bet maybe to contact a few motorcycle wreckers and see if you can borrow a tank to test fit before purchase..

as a last resort you may need to get one specifically made.

Hey foolsp33d,
Thanks for the reply. I realise most of the job will be trial and error and I will probably have to custom tank as you said, just wondering if anyone else has considered going on long range rides with mini-motos through difficult terrain and therefore already given consideration to mod's appropriate.

I will prolly have to build it from scratch, I just want to learn as much as humanly possible from you guys about these bikes and their capabilities.
The aim is to build an ultralight (preferably under 50kg dry), supersmall dirtbike (preferably size of CRF50F), with a range of around 200kms.

Any advice or sites to educate would be appreciated.

**Meko: Many different opinions...Adventure bike is like a dumbed down Paris Dakar bike - designed specifically for durable long range touring over any terrain. Plus able to carry all gear for long periods of travel. My preference - under 160kgs with all mods, single/4stroke. Check out www.horizonsunlimited.com or mine below

Cool thanks for that. The smaller wheels on a mini will not handle the bumps & rough terrain as well as a full sized bike will but it will probably be more maneuverable. Good luck with it all :D

i dont think that you will need a bigger tank....it would probably be a good idea...but stock it shoul last 200km with ease....my 140 lasts all day and only uses around half a tank...and tat would be travelling around 40-50 km but thrashing it....it really depends if you ride conservatively i reckon

good luck with it all anyway

Any good sites for CRF50 mods? Hillz what engine do you have in your bike? 88cc is it much heavier? Who would be one of the best mini-moto builders in Oz? Assuming all riding was around 40-50kms what would you get kms per litre (approx)?
Since it looks like I'll have to start from scratch...Has anyone ever used Fast50s Billet Frame (Made of aircraft grade metals -1/2 lbs lighter than stock frame)?

on my ST50, i did 130km on exactly 3 litres fuel, thats travelling on bitumen road,

****! That is rather impressive. How fast were you going? Love your bike. Is it road legal? (guessing it is from your rego card sticking out) Where'd you pick it up? Yeah I'd be traveling mostly offroad but that is very good to know. Thanks.

yeah mate all road legal,

that was cruising constanetly @ 45-55kmh,

id been looking for a Z50 for few years, and they were going for over a grand for a rego Z50 and even then they were kinda rough,

than the ST50 came up for sale about 3 months ago, with 750km on the clock, 20mins later it was mine lol,

my dream is to do a trip like "death monkeys" did, but here in SA, something like Adelaide - melbourne would be awesome:D

goodluck with your trip (your living my dream;) :) )

not atm cause its registered as a moped,

engine swap to 125cc = new crusing speed of 80km and my death wish is now granted hehe!!! than it can be bike regoed,

iam only dreaming atm, with a baby on the way in the next 2-3 weeks and a 3yr son, ive got too many resonsibiltys to be risking riding 1500km and a mini :p

(not to say it wont happen down the track though!!! dreams need to be acted apon)

For the sake of your soon to be born baby would you like to sell your bike to me? I would only buy it to help you out.. a friend in need and all that..

Did you find it through ebay?

lost,

Iv been contemplating your situation and after much thought come to the conclusion your best bet would be something like a ct110.. parts are EVERYWARE, they are unbreakable, CHEAP as to run, have a Long range tank avail. with minimal suspension work, can handle off the beaten track with ease.. are more reliable and certainly a hell of a lot stronger than ANY china bike, and probably the best thing... can pick them up in GREAT condition for the price you pay on a China bike!!

some links that you may find interesting are:

hope they are helpful!

a Ct110 would be the shizzle, they can even handle a super kicker! as the late JP showd us
