need some rims info

Whats up all,

i posted this in Tech talk a few days ago but had no replies yet so.....

i need to know...my bike has a 12mm front axle and a 15mm rear (anyone seen this before?) i have some rims in my DHZ cart and before i hit the checkout i need to know:

1)The front 2.15 motard rims (suits 15mm axle) can the wheel bearings be changed to suit a 12mm axle or will i need to look at a different front end?

2)i wanna set of axle sliders....are they only avail for 15mm?

and off the rim topic...

does anyone run rear brakes on there motard, i was thinking about removing mine....opinions?

Could just use a sleeve between the forks that goes over the 12mm axle to bring it to 15mm.

and im pretty sure the bearings AREN'T interchangeable

Nah sorry mate Im not the best person to ask about metals so someone else will have to answer that one for ya.

i cant realy add much to the fork problem exept maybe drill them out, if you dont have a 15mm drill bit id sugest going to a metal fabrication shop or something and ask them to (if they charge you i dont see it being much)

and with the rear brakes i dont run them for 1 reason, which is because i cant. my frame is set up for drum brakes (i think?) but ither way untill i custom mount a master cylinder i wont be running them , wasnt that difficult last track day.. like i wasnt putting my foot down for them or anything. but its allways better to be safe then sorry eh haha

Yeah, I don't run rear brakes either.. Mostly because I would of needed to get new spacers and I couldn't be f*cked. But like Matt said, you don't really need them. I grabs for my rear brake on the first lap, first corner then remember I didn't have any lol. But after that I was fine. The gears slow you down a shitload and you don't need your front brake unless you're not down shifting before the corner - I have found. Not running rear brakes also helps your rear wheel spin better without has much friction. Seems like a win, win if you ask me...

But with forks, post a pic of your existing forks so some of the mini masters will be able to tell you if they can be drilled out or not.

id be a bit worried about drilling them out without the likes of a drill press, i like the idea of the spacer Thump suggested, but then i cant run the sliders i want??

I've got a rear brake but never use it. I sit my toes on the pegs the whole time and only move my left off to shift gear, so I think I'll be removing mine too. The only reason I can think of to keep a rear brake is to possibly save looping a wheelie, if your quick enough.

Drill them out, just use a couple of intermediate bits to makes sure you can keep it all lined up, I have done it a couple time a couple years ago before 15mm was the standard.
