Hey peeps

i am long time reader of the forums but first time ive wanted to actually ask a question to get feed back on

ive been out with a few mates quite a few times on their mini and full size and wanting to jump on the band wagon

ive been looking at some bikes on the market and noticed two i like but want to know which is actually better and size, budget is 1500 ish see how that goes

first is a DHZ DPRO 160;
DHZ DPRO 160

second is an Atomic Nitrous Mid Size 160cc
http://www.atomik.com.au/dirt-bike/pit-bike-range/nitrous-mid-size-160cc.html

at first glance the DHZ bike looks smaller, is it a crf50 size or the 70? ive tried riding a 50 and being just over 6 foot it doesnt feel very comfortable which is why id prefer a midsize.
also the type of riding we do is mostly bush tracks, sand / beach stuff, normally out riding for a few hours at a time,
i want something that will last and not leave me stranded 1.5 hours from camp

what ever advice you have i would like to know before i start spending

Both bikes are good but the DHZ kicks atomiks ass in quality and handling, however that being said the atomiks are still good as long as it has been setup properly first and maintenance is kept up. The atomik can be picked up for around 800 + postage on the bay, this will leave you with some left over money to upgrade it. But if you do that then you may as well go and get a DHZ Outlaw 160, its midsize and is highly recommended on this site. DHZ OUTLAW 160R, LKI Sticker, New Release

If I were you Id save that tiny bit more and get the DHZ outlaw.

so the 400$ difference is really worth it,
right off the bat tho i would have to change the sticker kit. it looks like its just ridden into some paint tins
is their much difference between the pitpro 160 and the xy 160 ??

The DHZ Dpro 160 is CRF50 based hence the cramped look and feel on it. I personally don't like riding that type of bike.

The Atomik Nitrous is just as reliable as the DHZs. Just keep up on the maintance which you'll have to do often when riding on sand (minibike or big bike).

The outlaw is a little out of your price range unless you happy spending the $1750 on it. Could look at the DHZ Dpro 140 which is CRF70 based (Like the DHZ outlaw 160). IN you price range with money left for you to do upgrades like bars and carbie (Swap to OKO) :
- DHZ DPRO 140, LKI Sticker Kit, New Release

If you decide on the Atomik Nitrous go on to eBay as Gooseman said and get it off there. Will be alot cheapier.

First thing you do to the engine is drop the shipping oil and put in some new stuff:
- Shell Advance 4T Motorbike Oil - 15W-40, 1 Litre - Supercheap Auto
- Castrol Activ 4T Motorbike Oil - 15W-50, 1 Litre - Supercheap Auto

Then check your valves... VERY IMPORTANT!!:

Might want to have a look at some mods to do to your bike as well:

Thanks for the info it has taken me a bit to read through it.

I am happy to spend 1750 on a bike if its worth the extra dollars.
If it saves me rebuilding or doing mods right out of the box

You'll have to change the oil straight up. Bars and air fillter would be a good change. Maybe TAG, Protaper bars and an OKO?

Send Ken an e-mail at DHZ and tell them your from MR or send them a private message on here and talk to him about what you want and he will give you what you want and need at an even better price then advertised.

The outlaw 160 would be the best way for you to go imo, i got the dpro 140 which is a sick bike for price but just in the suspension alone the outlaw is basically finished, your looking at a dnm shock and black label forks which is about $600 bucks worth and then its a 160cc like mentioned throw an oko & bars on it & have a chat with the guys. Dont learn the hard way like i did. Spend or save a little more and in the long run it will be cheaper. Thats my two cents worth anyway

outlaw will not disappoint you at all, the bars and an oko carby would be a good mod but it isn't necessary straight away if you don't want to spend any more then that, have a ride of it see what ya think, if you can't put up with the throttle response and the handling then the bars and carby will make it a great bike. Although without them still a very good bike.

don't waste your money buy a bike with a linkage setup

it's better handling and a better ride

No way its fun to build a bike the way you want it and make it personal ... so what if you spend a small fortune ! Havent we all ??

You have a good point about the suspension tho  But anyway you look at it you pay for the better setup $1250 dpro 160 vs $1750 outlaw 160.

Ive personaly got the dpro i love the crf 50 style frame and looks even the way it rides ... but other swear by the crf70 style ..... have a chat to ken at dhz there great ppl to deal with

Are you learning to ride and want a first bike? or know how to ride n just want a mini cause there awesome?
Cause if your just learning then getting a linkage frame bike probably wouldn't be necessary, there alot better when jumping and racing around but its at an expense. Just something to think about.

I agree first pit bike linkage straight away I don't think so no point having linkage unless you race or seriously jump and there are a lot of guys that go linkage that still can't even ride well enough to take advantage of it. Plus don't want to confuse the DHZ bikes with there size differences ie. dpro 160 crf50 style, dpro 140 crf70 style, outlaw 160 crf70 style. Best advise I can give is go in and sit on a few different bikes as many as possible I drove 2 & half hours to DHZ shop to see the bikes in person don't buy online go down and check em out for ya self.

do you have a dealer up that way that keeps them in stock?

Hey guys. Sorry. Been busy with work at the mines haven't had time to get on here. Nah in whyalla in SA the closest dealer of any sort is in Adelaide which is 4 hours away. Its not my first bike. I have had my bike licence for a few years.
I will want to jump the bike but not super huge stuff more endurance bush and sand with little jumps here n there.

Is their a way to register these bikes for trail riding / recreational

well then the linkage bikes will be more fun on the rough terrain but up to you really if you want to go down that path.
As for rec reg, i think so but not 100%, try a search on here think theres a people talking about it before.

well after the long wait, the DHZ Outlaw 160R arrived yeterday,

put it all together, done the checks that dhz give you on a piece of paper
oil change just to be sure it had good oil in it

started her up... within seconds the miss's is telling me their is oil goin on the floor

turned off the bike, and inspected further, pulled off bash plate as it looked like it was coming from the oil cooler lines.

turns out that the oil feed / delivery gallery for the cooler has stripped threads in it

im sure its a great bike .. but kinda let down already, within 2 min of running im having issues

Were the lines already in the bike or did you put them in??
Is the banjo bolt stripped or the cooler??

the bike was 90% together, just had to put on the bars and front wheel

the bolt is not stripped its the threads in the engine

if your good with the mechanical side of things ..... Helicoil is the only way to fix it otherwise take it over to someone whos got the gear to do it ..... Its not a big job and anyone who knows how to do it can have it sorted in 10 mins..

Dont bother trying to locktite it silicon or anything like that just wont work its a pressure fitting
