Hi!

basically im 27 years old and just decide i wanna start riding some dirt!!! Looking for advice on everything really....best starter bikes, clothing, tracks etc.

most importantly i wanna do a training course so does anyone know anywhere around sydney that i can go and do a couple of days intensive training???

thanks

stu:)

welcome to MR mate

we used to get Gally's clinic down here but just big bikes ...not aware of anyone doing clinics for mini's... first ride go a dhz in your budget for value and aftersales ... the last being very imortant.

gear ... helmet and gloves minimum .... boots and body armour a good investment too.

yeah don't think there are any clinics for mini's........as dready's mentioned the DHZ bikes are great starter units, the only thing i would add to dreadys list of saftey gear would be a set of knee guards.

How much are you willing to spend on your first bike, its good to know so then people can recommend the best bike for you.

yea mate knowing your budget will help allot to recommend the right bike for you. you can go anything from $600 to $3000, and of course the more you spend the better the bike will be

plus you should budget around $400 for decent riding gear.

if your wanting to spend round 2500

i would highly reccomend the pitster pro x4r

i previously owned a dhz monster 140 and spent over 2500 on the bike itself and parts bike cost 800 i bought a lifan 150, oko carb, grips, levers, plastics, grphics, rear shock , tyres ... list goes on

my pitster pro is way way better stock than my custom dhz for sure

one i do want to say is i remember reading on here somewhere that you can only have 2 of the following

CHEAP, FAST, AND RELIABLE

thanks guys

im probably looking to spend no more that 3000 for bike and bits to start. gutted about training days as i'll be bailing a lot more practicing on my own! haha

an X4R would be a great bike.. although they have a some kick as they run the 155z engine.
but if you got a big open area to learn on you will be fine. they are round 2400 i think but Ken from pitsterpro/dhz may cut u a deal. then you could spend a decent amount getting fitted out right. Helmet, gloves, goggles, boots, pants, jersy and some armour.

yea with $3000 go the pitster pro x4r, then spend the rest on setup costs gear etc.
Pitster Pro - X4R
Give ken at pitster a call and tell him miniriders sent you, he'll hook you up with a good deal. ask him about a decent chain and airfilter while you're at it

If ya only got $3k max, then I'd spend the remaining $ on riding gear $500 will get everything you need and in high quality if you buy from the right place, ridersdiscount.com is the cheapest you'll find.

then u need engine oil castrol activ 4t is good 4l is $35, air filter oil $10 and there'll be more little bits n peices that will eat away at your wallet

^^^ all that's just a suggestion, IMO that's the best way to spend your money

That's what I was gunna type ...damn near word for word .... I also think this is a good deal ...simply your best choice for the coin .

As for coaching ?

Check the riding spots thread in here .... heaps of crew riding, training and racing at all levels all over oz .... also go to a race meet as this another great way to find riding buddies ..... find a crew riding near you and you have found your coaches .... that's how most learn anyway .

These bikes are all about fun and you'll find most of the crew riding em are just like there bikes ... all about fun.So get out there and find a track .... you'll soon meet crew to ride with as most in the scene are pretty easy going and will be be happy to bang bars with ya .;)

P.S GREAT TO SEE SOMEONE COME HERE FOR ADVICE INSTEAD BUYING AN FLEABAY PIECE OF SH#T AND COMING ON FOR HELP .

nice one guys...got a good idea of where to start at least now!

as for license wise i'm coming from the uk so not sure how it works in aus? do you still need a license to ride of road? and are mini dirts road legal in aus?

oh yeah...any of you in the sydney area then or can you recommend a crew to get in touch with??

cheers

If your going to race some tracks and organisers want you to have an MA licsence.

There are is rec reg that lets your ride in wildlife reserves, parks, bushland but thats only in VIC :(:
- Recreational motorcycle registration : VicRoads

There is the Motovert's RX50/125 that can be rego'd and you can pick them up cheap second hand:

- http://www.miniriders.com.au/mini-chat/25939-how-many-km-s-has-your-motovert-rx-done.html

Here's the Motovert website:
- Motovert - Australia number 1 brand of performance mini bikes

But trying to get your new pittie road rego'd will be hard and expensive. Because the X4Rs don't come with lights, batteries or a compliance frame.

you dont have to have a MA license you can get day license but will ensure you that getting an MA license will work out cheaper IF you go to tracks or race often if you do it 2 times a year i would not bother

you can get rec rego pretty easy cant you?

from what i have you read you dont need lights

can anyone tell me if there are any crews i can get in touch with round syd???
