oil cooler

Hi i have an atomik rs (BSE) 125 is it worth putting and oil cooler on it and what dose it do thanks luke.

I personally think it will be a waste of time and money to put one on it coz there will be no noticeable difference

lookmate i will tell i hate bse bikes 2 becase a good mate got one of them things and the 1st ride the frame snaped he did not even leave the ground and is only 60kg allmost killed him never will he ever ride a china bike again. he tells me every time we go riding to leave my china toy shit at home and take the crf

nah i wouldnt bother with an oil cooler i got a 140 and i swear the oil coller on it does nothin, it hardly gets warm, the oil doesnt get pumped around enough to get any benifit from having it

Have you ever wondered why th oil cooler doesn't get warm... maybe its because it's designed to cool... The cooler is a direct feed from the pump so if you think it doesn't have enough flow your motor is killing itself... i think your entire motor has problems...

Back to the problem... If you think it will make a difference then it will. Get one. They aren't expensive, put it on and at least you will have peace of mind your motor isnt frying itself.

Yes the oil cooler is deisgned to cool so there for the oil cooler should get hot. If it didnt then its not doing its job, the oil cooler is there so that the oil can transfer its heat to the metal then the air transfers its coolness to cool the metal. So if the metal is not getting hot then the oil aint transfering the heat to it so therfore the oil cooler is doin sh** all

ahem, cough cough, i know what you MEANT, but all things lose heat to reach equilibrium... the heat ALAYS transfers to the cooler surroundings... you cant add cold to anything, just remove heat FROM something...

sorry bro, im in geek mood... and this statement, along with "heat rises" annoys the crap out of me heat does not rise, hot air is merely displaced by denser cold air. often alled "convection".. now in space where gravity plays no part, i always wondered what happens when you boil water... where do the bubbles go? like opening a bottle of coke......

i just popped one onto my dinky lil 125, for $40, why not? now the main oil feed on 138's and smaller is up the side of the cylinder, gets damn hot...
i noticed the inlet side too my oil cooler is boiling hot, and the output side is lukewarm, so yes, they do do something....

ill know after my next oil change whether they stop the oil going black so quick though...but damn these engines run hot, and $40 for peace of mind is worth it, i think...

ok...why do automatic transmisssions(cars) have an oil cooler? if they didnt do anything, they wouldnt put them on, i think...

and why have a radiator at all? there is a reason...try working it out.... and dont say anything about combi vans or beetles either cause ill just say...why have fins on an air-cooled cylinder/head?

Sure have and i can gaurentee that the surface temperature of the radiator is not as hot as the radiator fluid... Just like how the surface of the oil cooler is never as hot as the oil inside... So just because the cooler doesn't feel hot doenst mean that its not cooling.

We ran an article in the hood that Andy from big 50 sent us ... it confirmed suspicions we had of cheap billet alloy coolers are nothing more than heat sincs after testing temps at a brotherhood shootout

This is due to their innability to agitate or turbulate the oil , limited slots and reduced airflow due to mounting behind the guard and too few rows ... a good oil cooler will have 5 or 7 rows of tubes and finning .
So good coolers are good ... cheap ones are pretty useless .... this from Andy at big50's who most would agree is a guru.

cooler wont do alot

hey man i work at motorbike city and we sell the pit pros and moto verts .
ne thing under the 140 mark doesnt reall need an oil cooler. its just abit of a bling hop up . and if your moving the air passing over the engine will cool it sufficiantly

i think its 12-13 rows? i aint going out in the rain to count them.
temp gradient on mine between input and output is huge...at least 80 degrees...though i havent measured it. but i cant touch one side and the other sides fairly cool. and sitting up in the handlebars...heaps of airflow...
gets damn hot when you arent moving though.

ony thing i dont like is that the oil in the lines drains away so on first startup, it takes a second or two for the oil to get to where its meant to...

Two very good posts very true if i was you mate i wouldnt worry about

spend your money on something like a biger beter carby? 28mm mikuni or how about a performance coil and cdi?, if your after some bling making the bike look beter, go out and get a dress up kit. clutch brake lever gear leaver protaper bars etc.

i got of the point but my opinion is a cooler is a waste of time n money puting it on if not standard
