also when i first spoke to atomik on the phone about the stripped thread the guy said from the sounds of it theyll need to send me a new head. even if they do then i need to get it fitted so if in the end they tell me thats what theyre gonna do ill be asking for the gasket and where i can get it fitted at their cost. no way am i paying to get it fitted from a manufacturer defect with warranty

No PCV valves on these engines (at least not that iv'e ever seen) Dodgy carby more than likely... Good luck mate, hopefully Atomik get it sorted for ya.

I'm in SA mate I have a big foot, atomik 250 and revmx you can come sit on and get a feeling for????

lol not that great so far, i think theres carby issues cos yeah it idles bad and up to 1/4 throttle its spluttery but as i wrote in this thread the head has a stripped thread on the bottom valve cover so yeah warranty. not really atomiks fault cos as im aware they dont build the motor they order them in but regardless they have to fix the problem. been speaking to them on the phone and through email and so far it sounds like theyre gonna send me a new head and gasket, and i know someone who can fit it. just then gotta get the carby sorted and itll be all gold. im so **n keen to ride this thing but its been a week and a half and ive barely done anything with it

id love a hand, the closest ive gotten is getting it where its at, i tried changing needle position and the mixture screw but nothing really got it past where its at. my mate knows a mechanic who he orders parts through who he said might help me cheap. just waiting to see if i get this head anytime soon.

Btw - does anyone know the torque settings for the head of the yx160? if i had to guess id say like 15nm? the yx140 is 12nm

Tap the stripped bolt hole out to the next up size and drill that particular cover hole out to suit the bigger bolt OR it can be heli-coiled to suit the stock bolt ... They should really use studs into alloy on motors , not bolts ... Then keep the new head and gaskets as spares ...

Check your valve clearances to make sure they're set right as that can make the motor run poorly ...

Also SDG stands for Speed Defies Gravity ... From what I've seen with the earlier "twin pipe" frames , genuine SDG frames did appear to be made from better quality metal than cheaper made "copy of a copy frames" ...

yeah ive done the valve clearances on it, exhaust was out by a little bit but the intake was pretty spot on. i spoke to atomik today regarding whats gonna happen. they told me theyre gonna send me a new head, gasket, carby, intake manifold and gaskets. thats pretty good warranty service. fairly pleased with that. hopefully on the weekend my new baby will be purring like a kitty. i sent them videos of the bolt and one of the bike running and i was told by the warranty/mechanic dude that it seems like it hasnt been pre tuned before it was sent out and thats why its been running poorly, but yeah the head bolt was definately stripped. all good new bits on the way.
