I recently bought a new 138cc oil cooled lifan donk to replace my 124cc lifan donk which i flogged the casses on.Anyway im no fan of the big solid oil cooler which is quite heavy and looks strange and apparently breaks the hinge welded mount preety easily if not set up right.

-So i was wondering how safe is it to remove the oil cooler and lines from the engine?

-will the engine over heat severly considering the 138 is actually 127cc and only 3 more cc's than my 124?

-I have no worries in blocking the oil coller line holes in the cases as i have the bolts in my old 124 engine ,would this be appropriate to block?

-Should i run an oil that can tolerate more heat such as belray thumper semi sythetic oil?

-Should i stop dickin around with the thing even though it looks like a lead brick?

Im aware some members believe its there for a reason but many riders with more demanding engine such as david pingree who runs a double overhead cam 116cc engine pumpin out 16hp does not even run a oil cooler and his engine is much more of a work horse than mine ,so whats the deal here?

deal

well im no mechanic but the motor has it for a reason namely an internal oil pump, with oil outlets to circulate oil around the motor in any case if you dont want to cool your oil wich i dont really understand why?? you will need to have a bypass from your oil pump outlet to its in let to allow oil to circulate around the motor if you just block em your EFFED!!! the motor needs to run oil around it... and that its road through.. there my two bobs worth.

They obviously need them if they say they are oil cooled otherwise, what cools them?

The air will do jack shit, lick the head of ya motor after a minute and you will notice it.

you dont have to run them but you cant just block up the hose lines
like kwikas said you just have to run a hose from the inlet to the outlet because of the oil pump

do you even think about what you say?????

what about the 30,000 air cooled engines thats out there running without coolers???

go and lick the head of your dads fully liquid radiator cooled + thermo fanned car after its been driven for only 5 mins,

I had a thread similar to this a couple months back..... Some mod has deleted it and it had about 5 pages worth. The main gurus including Mack and CactusJack said your engines life would be shortened as these engines have minimal air cooling as it is. And no you cannot bolt your oil fed holes up otherwise you will starve the top end of oil (see above link). The motor would expand

wtf dude, think before you type.

and there a modded air cooled bikes getting around with more power than these stock oil cooled bikes, so removing the cooler will not result in any immediate harm if thats what you were worried about.
though as said the very long term life of the bike may suffer.
if your racing you may also lose a little bit of power when the bike gets hot, worth considering.

has anyone actually tested temperatures with and without. while i am sure they help i also wonder how much, as compared to water oil has a relatively low specific heat capacity, or ability to transfer heat.
though i guess on these engines every bit helps.

I really wish that the thread wasn't deleted (I have no idea why it was?) It had some real good info and answered your questions minidirt.

Ok well run the motor without the cooler I don't care but I bet you will one day when you need a new head.

you can run no cooler from the head i guess.. esspecially because that chunk won't do much i don't think..

but on the lifan 138/140 YOU HAVE TO RUN A COOLER from the clutch case to crank case..or at least make a hose that runs from A-B other wise there is no way the oil will get from there

have a look at this thread here

I think you should seriously consider leaving this forum.

thats abit harsh dont ya think im always typing stupid shit

come on guys settle the fuk down for a moment ey??

now oil coolers... first not a big fan (AT ALL) so with that sorted =)
most the china bikes have just thrown them on probably as a sell point but dont really work well, most are not very defined so you'd be lucky to get one working well and cooling sweetly.

unless you pay some good cash to get a cooler i dont think the china ones are too good quality like all china shit =D

my mate bought a new race engine with cooler and lik me thinks there bullshit so pissed it off and just bought a different side cover and he gives his engine a whoopin and that doesn't overheat...

its not lik the old skool 50's had bloody oil coolers.. there just a extra add on that isnt really worth it... keep it small and simple.. =D

theres my 2 cents worth =D more like 2 dollars worth haha

The CNC ones are pretty crap. I have one and it's what unit mx has. After a while of riding the oil cooler gets shit hot anyway.
