to check your timing mate, the most simplest way i have found is remove the spark plug, cam gear cover on the head and the magneto cover. now looking at the hole where the cam gear cover cam off there should be a notch or small arrow on the head and also a dot or mark on the cam gear, if you line these both up then you have top dead center on the cam..
now take a small screw driver and gently put it in the spark plug hole untill you feel it hit the piston now slowly and gently turn the magneto till you find the piston is all the way up to the top(please be carefull not to jam the screw driver in there).
now when you have found the pitson to be at the very top of its travel have a look at the cam gear marks and see if they line up together....
and mate how much oil do you have in yr bike because if you let it run too low i believe that this can cause the timing chain adjuster to not hold its tension as it runs off oil pressure..
also some details may be a little different as i have a 125cc
also sorry if its too much info but its better to have too much than not enough
