Whats the general progression of bikes for kids?

id say from 6 tbh that's the age id set a kid up on a crf 50 or a ds80 and go inside and have a coffee (once there good) maybe lower but i would have to watch them and have the bike restricted.. i reckon around 6- when you hit somthing is when you learn that stuff hurts
maybe 8+

if i ever have kids there going on as soon as they can touch the ground on a restricted jr 50 and thats with me walking with them

Im having my 1st baby this coming July, im already thinking this question. My wife also rides MX so the poor child will have no hope :lol: Im thinking starting round 2 - 2 1/2. Cut down seat on a pee wee and restricted.

From everybody's responses it sounds like a personal preference answer.

I too have been asking myself the same question, I guess you as the parent will know when your child will be ready or not. IMPO I'm going to say 3.5 onwards.

My next door neighbours have 4 boys 7 5 2.5 and .7
The 2.5 kid is incredibly smart and and well adjusted to life thanks to his elder brothers, but IMO he's a tad young for a moto. Give him another year he'll be ready to go well and truly!

had my boy on a quad at 5or 6
put him on a 2 wheel at late 7
had a 70cc at 8
he's only just started on a ktm 65 now which is a massive step but hey he'll learn eventually

personal preference as said above but remember you then have to cart clean and maintain 2 sets of bikes and gear... it's a pain sometimes

this is my son Cj at 3 years old,
he loved sitting on the quad, but once it was running, he was happy to just watch.
he was 5 before he asked to come for a ride on the DS80 with me.
then last year when he was 6, i got him the PW50, and we haven't looked back since

Not keen on one of those quads lol. I want her on 2 wheels!! But I am seriously considering that atomik tuffmoto, have to see it in real life first - anyone got one? If it's too big she'll just have to wait till she is 3 and I'll get her a pw50 it seems. 21 months at the moment and getting around well on an electric trike.

PW50's are the best value for money, they will never break down and hold value for re-sale

when my 6 yo was 4 i fixed up an old electric quad for him, it was a 6 volt model
when he was confident riding it, i converted it to 12v, twice the power, he liked the wheelspin, and learnt to drift it around corners pretty quick!

If shes too small for a 70 etc, get a jr50 there slow low and perfect for beginners (probably cost around 800 - 1000) great confidence builder
