Hey guys,

I own a PitPro XR 140cc which has a YX 140cc engine in it.
The bash plate on is developing a crack through it.
We were going to weld it up but the material is not steel, it seems like some sort of an alloy..
I was wondering whether it was possible to buy steel bash plates or at least something stronger which wont get a crack from a rock or something...
Preferably a shop in Adelaide or something cause I dont want to order online..
It needs to fit the YX 140cc obviously..
I was hoping you guys could tell me any shops in Adelaide that would stock these.
I know East 50's have some but it looks exactly the same and it will crack again...

Thanks, Mitch.

give east 50's a ring and see whether they could mabye special order something in for you. or else, i guees you could take your bashplate to a fabricators and ask them to make a copy out of steel

Yeh, dads ringing Brian tomorrow so we will see how that goes.
Dad thought he could cut some steel out to bolt on to the bottom and we would just break off the front section from where the crack is onwards.

could you show a photo of the crack? or describe where abouts it is? my 140xr cracked the bashplate too, it's going straight across from the side, in front of the two front mount points. I've just left it on for now and makes a grinding growl from the vibrations when the engines revs hard

Yeh mine seems exactly the same
The crack starts at one side and is about half way across to the other side, its getting there :S
Its in front of the two triangular mount things, so its cracked just before the bash plate starts curving up.
As I said before dad was going to cut off from where the crack is, cut some steel, bend it and bolt it onto the bottom of the current bashplate.
And I asked him whether we could extend it higher up to protect the front of the engine because a while ago a rock or something hit one of the hose near the front which carries the oil around I think..?

And mine makes an annoying rattle every time I rev as well!! grrr

Random Question:

Just curious about this but didn't think it was necessary to start a thread on it.. lol
Is it necessary to prop your bike up on a milk crate or a stand over night.
Like is it bad for your suspension or something if your bike is always supporting itself, even if it has a stand..
Thanks :D

the bike is fine to sit on it's kickstand, the suspension won't be under much stress at all just from the weight of the bike, what brings on this question? pretty random lol

so both our bashplates broke in exactly the same place, looks like pitpro are using dodgy bashplates. they really shouldn't just crack like that in a spot like that, they alloy is fairly flexible and have you tried snapping the end off? it's bloody strong alloy. there has to be a manufacturing fault here.
I'm keeping an eye out for cheap bashplate but the plan is to get it welded by someone with the right equipment if it doesn't cost too much, I'm gonna try filling the crack with silicon to see if that stops the vibrations too

Yeh, I was just looking round at pictures on this forum and about 10 in a row had a milk crate or stand... I just want the best for my bike :D

Yep by the sounds of it they did. We were going to weld it but we dont have the right type, it would just melt the alloy.
I could bring it to school, seen as we are a private school they might have the right gear :)
It could be my secret project in metal tech :p
Yeh the silicon is actually a good idea :) Thanks

The new version of Lxr has an updated Bashplate. looks like they have solved the problem.

DHZ Mini Moto - PitsterPro HD Alloy Bash Plate

Not positive it will fit your bike?.

Yeh it doesnt really tell you what engine it fits..
Do you think it fits all Pitster Pro engines??

Well mine is on a Klx style topend engine .

im not sure if the bashplate mounts are different on the 2 style engines? (crf/klx)

yeh I don't think it would fit our engines, is this a common problem?

I think you need a TIG welder with inverter to weld the alloy

Yeh, I think its cause the rock or whatever hits the curved surface and the pressure goes to the weakest spot which I would say is where the bash plate begins to curve, which is where mine cracked..

Alright guys, got good news :) well at least for me, haha
Dad dropped in to SA Fun Bikes at Lonsdale the other day and they had a steel bash plate which was second hand.
We picked it up for $25 and he said if it doesn't fit then just bring it back for a full refund.
So we took it home and sussed it out today.
We figured that it was a home made job but just went a little wrong.
It didn't fit straight away but it was close enough to persevere with.
After about 2 hours of modifying the bash plate we managed to get it to fit.
We had to cut bits off, bend almost every part, angle grind the front mounts off then bolt them and weld them down and the list goes on... haha
But its steel so it can handle all of this unlike an alloy.. :D
Heres what the final product looks like..
Its hanging up to dry from the black paint we sprayed it with.

Hope you like it :D

nice job man, I hope it hold up well for ya.
I was looking at the bashplates on the motoverts the other day and they're nearly twice as thick as the ones on the pitpro's, I'll have to find out how much they'd sell one for. I put liquid nails on the crack in mine and it doesn't make much noise anymore
