Hey guys new to this
I just got a xjr50ss and when I rev it fast it splutters
And sounds like its going to die and when I rev it slowly
It does the same thing but then gets going.
Once your going it goes good until u slow down.
Anybody have any ideas on what it could be?

possibly a blocked Pilot Jet ? it supplys fuel from idle up to 1/4 throttle

what sort of carby is on the bike ?
you will need to remove it and take the fuel bowl off the bottom,
then take the 2 jets out and clean them out.
and blow through all the ports with compressed air while you are at it.

That sounds like it could be it. I'm not sure what carby it has its just stock.

does your carby look like these, with a round fuel bowl ?

have you tried adjusting the mixture screw ?
the flat headed brass one, to the left of the idle speed screw (has a spring behind it) in the mid section of the carby

maybe just try turning up the idle speed, by turning it in 1 full turn
then adjust the mixture screw in or out 1/4 of a turn at a time and listen to the way it runs
you want it running the fastest/smoothest you can get
once you are happy then undo the idle speed screw a full turn out or a touch more to get an idle speed you are happy with.

then take the bike for a ride, see how it goes, and post back here giving us the details

this pic is with the fuel bowl removed
the Main Jet is in the middle
the Pilot jet is the one towards the manifold end of the carby,(removed in the pic)

at the bottom of this pic it shows a couple of Main Jets, and the bigger/longer Needle Jets that they screw into.
sometimes the smaller holes drilled across the Needle jet get blocked and cause running issues, mainly 1/2 to full throttle
