XR50 Won't Start

Hi everyone. I have an XR50 that won't start.

If I use starter fliud it will start on the first kick and run for as long as I spray the carb, but it won't run on it's own.

The gas tank is half full and the hose from the tank to the carb is clear.

Should I buy a new carb or could it be something else?

Have you cleaned out your carby and tuned it? Also poor out old fuel and check that nothing is blocking the fuel filter in side the tank. Undo the two screws for the fuel tap pull out and there is a fuel filter! I had an issue like this and there was fine bits of crap in the tank. They'd pass thru the filter and in to the carby where they would then block the jets!!

Firstly welcome to MR mate .... and yeah sounds to me like it's fuel starved to me, as Rach says a good clean may be all it needs. If that fails ? ..take a look in the tutorial section, there's plenty there on tuning ya carby .... if a good clean don't do it that'd be my next step.

Ok, so I've tried everything you guys said and no luck. I just received my new carb and will be installing it sometime this week. I'm sure it's not a simple swap out and I'm goning to have to adjust something on it. I am going to check out the tutorial section and see if I find anything on installing and adjusting a new carb. Thanks again.

is the new carb exactly the same as the original one? if so then just double check the jets are the same size and bolt it on making sure all th gaskets are in good condition..

That's just what I did sean01. She started right up. I'm going to send the old carb to a shop get cleaned by someone who knows what they are doing annd save it as a spare. Thanks everbody!
