Ok so I have in my possession the yx160 off carlts ( thanks dude!) and after a muck around yesterday, ie getting out of bed at 9:30 pm to split the cases haha this is what I have found.

- straight up it would go only into first and to neutral. Spin the output shaft a few times or tap the star selector and then could go into 2nd and 3rd. Never would it engage fourth.

- after reading up a bit of info ( this forum is amazing) i checked the shift shaft. appears pretty straight, maybe a tiny bend where the lever is attached.

- also checked the shift drum aswell. no rounded edges or anything. actually looks really good.

So now my good friends i need some direction on where to go.

Should i be able to find all gears in the box bolted up, no oil in her?

My yx150DTE case doesn't fit as it is slingerless. what determines the stroke. the actual crank itself or is the conrod length different? could i swap the cranks out for each other so i can run the case?

Just trying to suss it all out. any info would help. ill throw up some pics too.

Thanks fellas. Off to the gym! COOOOFFFFEEEE!!!!

I can't shift my yx160 without oil. The plates and everything need lubricant to shift at least that's what I've found in the past. I laid my bike done in its side and took the basket apart a played around trying to find this noise after about an hour u put it back together and was like what the f is going on here, i had a mate that used to race 450s check it out the next day and turned out I needed to ride it hard and shift hard to get the oil circulating enough so it would shift.

That would be the crank mate! not sure about the swappage though? :five:

cool might throw it back together try some oil and shift it. only have the lifan side case that was thrown in for transport. hope that will work haha

What determines the stroke? the offset of the crank pin to the crank... and the length of the conrod determines the dec height

so lets say my 155z has a 55mm stroke and the yx 160 has a 57mm stroke. they have the same dec height as each other because the conrod on the 155 is longer so therefor bringing the piston up to the same height as the 160 but not as far down the bore

Glad the engine arrived safely :)

:) I think the lifan case won't work unfortunately, I had a decent squiz at it and the clutch arm doesn't go in far enough to engage the clutch, I reckon you'd be best getting a side case off someones busted yx, there is alot around.

Hope you can get something to work out man!

yeah ill sort it bud! man im having dramas getting the cases back together! got mini rage! nearly threw the damn thing! haha

I have been there lol, my closest was having to rebuild my top end straight away as I pinched a gasket and she leaked :( Then I had to redo my clutch as I failed at putting in HD clutch springs lol

just wondering? how can you fail putting the springs in? like breaking the retainer plate?

He still put the springs in:banghead:.

Just not the HD springs he had bro

Yer I was putting in some HD springs and I tightened the plate in a wierd way, it somehow jammed the clutch :)

Lesson learned though, tighten evenly a little at a time and make sure it sits flush.

and BAM! suck it *****es!!!!! ah and from no reason but my own stupidity did it take me 6 hrs to put it back together! The reason being that silly me at 10:30 last night, half asleep and with low light managed to put a cog from the out put shaft onto the input! AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!

So with it all back together she changes gears!!! its seems the problem is that the spring loaded detent is catching and wont let the shift shaft do its job. mucked around with it and it appears to be ok now. Obviously shagged the gasket as I split the case but used gasket goo to reinstall so hopefully it don't leak haha.

when I get a case for the outside ill fill it up and check it then its tb all the way baby!!!!!!!!

Haha, Stubs you are hypo today, maybe the TB will tame you somewhat ; )

just pumped that it didn't beat me. And god damn I learnt a lot about the bottom end in these machines! haha. Really not hard at all to pull down.

Stubsy, make sure the bolt on the selector shaft is tight, then let it return a bit on the spring when you have a socket on it. Thats usually why they stick, that bolt is too tight. You can also deepen the shift star a bit with a file

Bloody carlts should have supplied a ballpein hammer stubsy. I'll try and see if I can find that case Tomoz mate
