Weight is just to work out postage, guessing it should fit in a 3kg express post satchel so will cost about $14 to get it to me
Piston std is 48mm, clean up the crown and look for marking's

If the piston making is on the crown I will never find it, crown is damaged so badly.. I have a set of verniers so I will measure it all up properly. Whats your favourite beverage?

Bore is 48mm, so its still stock, and weighs 1.5kg so will be easy on the wallet postage wise. Do youneedany more photos of the head or bore? I noticed another nick in one of the intake ports to... its roughly the same size as the one in the exhaust port.

Yeah maybe another one of the head from a different angle, and one of the piston from the exhaust side to show if there's been any scuffing
And one showing the hone mark's in from the top of the bore

What does your con rod look like where the gudgeon bearing went to lunch?

Do you have a magnifying glass? if so try and check out what the big end bearing's look like on the crank

Hard to get a good pic of the bore, the cross hatching is really only visible down the bottom of the bore. Im pretty confident the bore can be saved, its really only the intake port and exhaust port damage, and I can see how a fine file would bring the sharp edge down.
Rod seems fine, cant see any damage at all :)

All good, i'll print the pic's and take them down to him.

Any idea of how many hour's the top end has done ?

A fine stone (grey or pink) in a dremel will do the same job as a jeweller's file too, just be careful not to slip

I have no idea how many hours on top or bottom end on this bike unfortunately. I have to replace my dremel actually, kids fried my old one, might just get a cheapie to get this job done.

My Ozito grinder was under $40 from Bunning's with the 180 piece tool kit, but they don't sell that one anymore.
It is still going good too.
They only keep the basic one now, 170w with a 42 piece tool kit for $39-http://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-170w-42-piece-rotary-tool-kit_p6290175

But they also sell these now, less chance of it burning out, but then the grinding wheel's could easily be loaded up and burn the brushes.
And it's only 120w ! wth ?

Hey Stu,
I have just spoken to Dave, he asked is the RM barrel Nikasil coated or steel ?
He said the head is no worry's, cylinder should be ok ? but wont really know for sure till he see's them both.
I've sent him the pic's and he is going to ring me back, possibly today or tomorrow with an answer, probably a roughish cost too..
Then we can go for there.

This guy can fix anything !

Yeah i saw that they were Nikasil standard, but being 10 year's old and still having the standard piston i though it may have had a liner fitted to it at some stage?
It may have had a new barrel even ?

The only thing Dave said to watch out for is the Nikasil chipping near where the ding's on the port's are.
Let him have a look before you file it if you can.
I didn't hear back from him today, i spoke to him just as he was knocking off for the week.
But i'm sure he'll ring tomorrow.

Yeah, no prob's.
Do you have any Suzuki dealer's up your way to get the gasket's you'll need ?
If not just let me know, i can price and order them through Show and Go down the road or from Suzuki Revolution/Yamaha and Suzipart's world as aren't too far away either.

I have used these before on an RM80 i fixed up, they were pretty good value for the price.
Suzuki Full Complete Engine Gasket KIT SET RM 85 2002 2014 NEW | eBay
Otherwise go for Vesrah, Cometic or a Wiseco gasket set.

TB do a set too- Suzuki RM85 RM 85 85cc TOP END Rebuild Head Gasket SET KIT PRO X Wiseco Cometic | eBay

Spotted this top end rebuild kit too, come's with a Wossner forged piston (i have one In my IT200) -
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SUZUKI-R...43?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item27b51d8ecf
or a Wiseco kit- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Wiseco-T...sket-PK1206-/140577910376?hash=item20bb18ae68

Would you recommend one over the other? I do have a suzuki dealer here in pirie, but their prices are ridiculous. I paid 22 bucks for pads for callums bike on ebay, they wanted 50 for them at the the shop!

You could make a few phone call's tomorrow and compare price's.
Show and Go got my piston in for me (was $120 iirc ?) and i used genuine Yamaha gasket's, but my base gasket failed.
I made up my own gasket and fitted that and it's been fine ever since.

I like the Wossner piston made in Germany/US, but a lot of people use the Wiseco's too.
They are both high quality forged, so they do need a bit of a warm up before riding it full on.
The Wossner has the Moly coating to reduce friction so it's better in my opinion.

Both of those kit's at the bottom of that post above come with the gasket needed too, so maybe wait till Dave give's us the ok for the barrel, and then order the full piston/gasket kit.

Maybe contact the seller of the first kit and check that he has a Wossner piston in standard and 1st oversize's just to be sure that's what you'll get.
Mention's that an equivalent will be supplied if they are out of stock

I picked up a couple of part's you might need Stu.
Mmmm, i smell a fresh top end kit !

Give it a decent degrease and brush out then blow it all out with compressed air
Once it's reassembled all it need's is 2 tank's of juice put though the engine with a maximum 3/4 throttle before you wring it's neck for the rest of the day, lol

I hope you don't mind Stu, but i was blasting the PW carby top cap this morning and thought i'd give your head a clean up while i had it set up.
So i gave the head a quick once over in the blasting cabinet, then gave it a Vapour blast (water and bead blast media) after i did the PW carb top.
It has taken most of the built up scale and stain's out of the cooling port's where the coolant etc has stained it, and also give's it a slightly harder/peened finish, and a slight shine too.
I gave the top of the head a light coat of clear engine enamel too, to seal it and help stop corrosion.
You can give it a light scuff with scotchbrite and respray it black or whatever when you get it back if you want.

These pic's have made it look like a coarse finish underneath but it's not, on top i think the flash has made it look a bit shiner than the actual real life look too.
But the head is all clean and ready to fit now once the barrel has been cleaned out and the piston fitted.
