Hi, i have a mini dirtbike 50cc 2 stroke engine. my uncle passed this bike onto me, the bike has no air filter as my cousins had misplaced it somewhere.

The bike constantly dies out, the revs die out and then the bike cuts out once at a very low speed,, is this something to do with the air filter missing or too much 2 stroke etc.. ??
i would apreciate your help.

thankyou.

running a 2 stroke without an air filter is a pretty bad thing,

you have either now got a filthy carby which will need pulling apart and cleaning,

or you have stuffed the engine, cause a 2 stroke sucking in dirt and dust is just gonna kill the motor!!!

NEVER TUN WITHOUT A FILTER!!!................EVER;)

I know i got told, so the other day i put a thin material sock over wherte the filter should be, it sucks in air as i can see and keeps dirt out, only problem is it keeps doing the same thing, cutting out and dying out.... any help?

if you have ran it without a filter in the past, the carby is gonna be a dirty mess,

first step would be strip it down and give it a good clean, without a clean carby and a proper filter youll never get anywhere with it!

ah ok, tomorow i will try and take the carb apart step by step and clean it out... i dont want to end up taking it apart and then forgetting which bit goes where and then leaving the bike in a none working state

I don't understand, why you couldn't have just went and bought an air filter..

The amount of dirt and shit you must of sucked in when you kicked it without the filter.. you probably fucked the engine or atleast damaged it.

maybe, im a newbie to fixing bikes, can ride them quite gud but cannot work with them, lol got chased by council all over the local park to a scrubber area nearly got my 50cc siezed off me :O... ill update this topic tomorow.

I asked my neighbour who's good with motorbikes and he told me to put thin material e.g Tights, so i placed tights over where the filter should be, now the bike is running as normal.

Only problem now is my petrol is leaking whenever i turn the petrol on!
Do you know any way to solve this problem?

Thanks for your response people.

wheres it leaking dude, theres heaps of places fuel can leak from,

if you want that bike to last, buy a proper filter dude, there only like $20 max

ok DUDE i'm getting one tomorow. the petrol leaks from the little plastic pipe under the carb, why does it leak at a full tank, whenever i turn my petrol on ?

EDIT: this is an image of the pipe near the carb which leaks!

Estimate how much fuel line you will need and go down to the nearest bikes hop and buy yourself some new hose a foam air filter and air filter oil and you will be set!

Not anymore, I'm having the worst bad luck ever!!!! my bike was cutting out yesterday and wouldn't start.. soon after.. the fucking pull-start messed up inside and now thats fucked, still leaks and wont start! i need a stepbystep guide to putting the pullstart back together! any online tutorials/guides up in here?

is the overflow pipe screw screwed in as far as it can go if not try doing that coz if it isnt it will just run straight out of there:D

for god sake, DUDE, clean your carby, thats where your problems lie, you have been told by everyone, take it apart and clean it, you have run it for god nows how long without a filter. Putting socks, ya grandma's nickers, or even a brand new filter on it ain't gunna make a shred of difference until you clean the carby.
There gotta be so much dirt in there that with out a proper clean, your gunna keep having problems.
Soon they won't be able to be fixed. Don't say you weren't warned...

Listen to what you are told!!! Clean the carby!
You've been told you for a week now. They are really simple to dismantle, take your time and lay everything out onto a clean area in order as you remove it (even a sheet of printer paper will be enough).
Make notes as you go and learn. It's no use asking for advice unless you are willing to listen and try what you are told.
If you get stuck ask a for help but make sure you add a decent description ("the thing won't fit" is not a description! "The little pin under the tang on the float" is a description).
Good luck, it's not rocket surgery.

ok, sry, ill take apart the carby and clean it out, shall i clean with water once taken apart? then wait till dry? soz about the stupid questions but i dont want to mess it up totally... the bike starts right now but dies out once you let go of the revs..

without sounding rude mate, but i dunno if you should be pulling apart carbys now??? i think your gonna get yourself into a even bigger mess!!!

just the fact you asked about cleaning it in water leads me to beleive engines just aint for fortay....

maybe find someone who is more engine handy to help you pull it apart and clean, its not that hard of a job to do, but its not real easy either, unless you have good mechanical knowledge you could end up in a big mess,

i know people have gotta learn somewhere, but theres easier jobs you should be learning on i reckon!!!

you clean it with carby cleaner or petrol and use compressed air for the jets etc,

i havn't pulled it apart yet my allen keys are rounded off so i need some new ones, ill get it sorted by the end of the week.. the only thing i took off was the white nob which turns the petrol on and off.. now that has gone loose and i dont think it turns the petrol on/off anymore.. how can i fix that? it just spins round loose..
