ive got my engine on my desk next to me at the moment its a dhz 140cc outlaw motor its stock ive got it on tdc and all that ino what im doin but just need to no what the clearence should be i rang dhz and they said in between .3 and .5 but there is not even .3 on my feeler gauge so on the feeler gauge is it .003 and .005 is that what it should be set at in between .003 and .005...???

thanks guys

i set mine a 003 for int and 006 for exh
use a tally ho
str8 tally ho for int
folded tally ho exh

can i also ask y u pulled the engine out of ur bike to do it?

im putting a new gaskit kit in aswell so i took it out and irk and oil slinger so i just took it out and i checked the timing aswell

yeah ..but Honda is Honda...this is the measurement for a 50!!
For a chinkengine you have to put a bit more on the exhaust, due to more heat and lesser quality of the seats;)

hmm dunno
Pitpro told me .002 inlet and .003 exhaust for my pitpro 140xr
i have set them at that and it seems pretty good
havn't had any issues with it yet and given it some pretty hard work to do

ill give this a try and then see how its goes if not ill try it .002 and .003

Anywhere in the those ranges mentioned will be fine, just keep in mind that too much clearance never hurt anything, but just a fraction not enough and your set for trouble. 2 & 3 thou is tight, and you'd have to know you could run it. I would only reccomend running this if you are not heavy handed at setting the clearance and are also sure you can tighten the lock nut without twisting the adjuster slightly as you do...can be tricky without good tools.

so do you think 3 thou and 5 thou is ok or shoud i make it 3.5 or 4 for the inlet

3 thou inlet 4 thou exhaust is pretty ideal IMO

You set them cold first to the specs Mack says ...... then recheck after the engine is pretty hot to get an idea of what happens to the clearances ...... Basically you definitely need a gap when the engine is cold but you also have to make sure they don't close up tight when hot and vise versa .... as mountain is saying ... It's better to have slightly more clearance than not enough .......

hey really sorry to bump an old thread but i didnt want to post a new one.

basically ive just followed the steps to set clearence, i bought the bike 2nd hand off someone who probably never checked valves in its life..

so i check inlet valve and it seemed very tight, so i backed it off to 0.004.

put the bike back together and now i'm getting the infamous ticking sound from the valve.
it never ticked before, but now its a noticeable tick...
does anyone know what i may have done or need to re-do?

i guess the old saying stands true.. if its not broken dont fix it!!

edit: should probably mention:
- its a 125 ducar
- engine WAS on TDC and was NOT on valve overlap
- engine was a tiny tiny tiny bit warm, i warmed it up about 2.5hours before i did the valves

tighten it back up to .003 and see if the ticking is gone, dont go any tighter then that but

yeah i did it back up to 0.003 but it still seems to do it.. argh!!
ill double check it when the sun comes up..
