My nephew's got an RX1 mini bike and the exhaust is leaking where the pipe bolts to the exhaust manifold on the engine. When the pipe is bolted up tight against the manifold, there's this gap, even with the gasket installed. I'm not sure if there's a part missing or just the pipe is damaged. Any help would be appreciated.

Please see the pic.

Welcome to miniriders,

Dont forget to drop by into our introduce yourself thread and say g'day too.

I cant see the pic too clearly but is his bike a china made one with a horizontal engine in it?
There is normally a gap between the flange plate and the head.
The gasket has most likely collapsed.
You should be ablr to find a new one, buy the 5mm thick, copper o'ring type, cost around $3ea.
They will crush slightly as you tighten them, but seal off really well.

ok, sorry, was looking at the thread from my phone
i can see you picture better now on my pc.

you need another one of these gaskets- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Muffler-...MRA9-/281261650414?hash=item417c8031ee&_uhb=1

the 2x bolts that hold your exhaust to the head, might have been over tightened at one stage?
they have bent the mounting flange in on the sides.
it will lessen the clamping force on the centre section

you might get away with dropping the exhaust and bending the 2 outer edges of the flange back away from the head.
this will help make the sealing face flat and will mount up flush to the head better.
even run a file across the face to help flatten it off.

looks like the bike has been running a bit rich too ?
try the needle clip in the 2nd notch down, it will lean it a out little, and not spit as much oil etc

OK thanks for the help. I'll get the new gasket and try flattening the flange.

Also, I found out the 2 exhaust pipe head mounting bolts are coming loose when they ride the bike. Seems like it should be using locking washers or at least liquid thread lock. Any suggestions?

it should hold firmly once the exhaust is flat.
but, try the locking washers.
