How to get connecting link onto the chain?

Hey guys,

I've having trouble getting my connecting link onto the chain. I managed to get the connecting link apart but I can't get it on the chain. What is the best way to get it on. Is there some sort of trick?

hey mate is it the link or the clip cause i coudnt get my clip on till i hit it on with a hammer lol and it was fine

Get a flat-head screw driver and a hammer and tap it on, this can be a tedious process but make sure its all the way on, few days ago I couldnt get mine all the way on and left it, while riding it came off along with the chain and I had to walk 3 killometers up-hill back home.

I tried with a hammer and screw driver but still couldn't do it.

yeh mate thats the clip hit one side then the other and it should go on

see the bigger part of the hole, well put the little pin thing on ya chain through that and get it straight then get a pair of pliers and use then to pull the thing on, should only take you a few seconds if it won't go on then your doing something wrong.

just use pliers?? thats how i do it thought that how every body did it?

I use plyers put sometimes it wont go all the way on, in that case I use a hammer and a screwdriver.

Is this the right way? I think the pliers are too big.

yep that is the right way to do it, the pliers are fine just persist, and don't use a hammer and screw driver u will just hurt yourself or break something.

Finally I got it on. Thanks guys.

But I got another question now because I don't want to break this one.

How do I adjust the chain? I take it would be something to do with that little cog. Here's a photo of how mine looks. Is it fine?



Also the little cog is a little wobbly, is that fine?

you just loosen the axle a little bit, then the little 10 or 12mm chain adjuster bolts right next to the axle are your adjuster bolts, turn the nuts on the bolt, these tighten & loosen the chain depending on which way you turn them.

Dont know what cog you are talking about, do you mean the front sprocket? Thats supposed to be a bit wobbly.

Your chain adjuster is a bit different from my bike but you have to move those nuts on the thread just above the axle on the swingarm, this moves the axle back and forth, when you move it forward to loosen the chain hit the wheel with a rubber or wooden mallet to get it to go forwards.

Your chain looks like its at an allright tension, maybe a little bit loose..

The cog I mean is circled in green. With the nylon thing I have circled in red (now done up obviously), when the connecting link goes through it gets caught a bit so the bike jolts a bit. Do I just loosen it so the chain goes through smoothly?

Edit: Don't worry about that cog now. I know where you adjust the chain.

That "cog" is the front sprocket, its supposed to be wobbly.

Maybe the chain is hitting the bottom of it and needs to be tightened though you say its only the connection link so maybe its a bit wide and its hitting the side of it... hmmm

yeh I think it's the connecting link because that's wider than the other links and it doesn't do get sort of stuck every time.

Do you think I would be able to saw a little bit of the nylon thing so the chain can go through without constantly hitting it?
