Hi all,
I got the JR50 for my 4 year old son on wednesday night so far I have nocked up some training wheels for it and modified the brake lever because he could not reach it without taking his hand completely off the throttle. He has probably only been on it for 10 minutes around my workshop with the speed contoller turned down to walking speed. I am taking him to a local spot tomorrow and I was just wondering how others had gone with teaching there kids how to ride.

Yesterday before he was allowed to ride I went through everything with him it was a little bit different to the quad but he new what the throttle was he has sat on the tank many times with me so that bit was not a problem. the problem was that the JR50 has a foot brake and a hand brake the hand brake is built into the throttle where as the quad has 2 hand brakes and he has never really used the brakes on the quad he just takes his thumb off the throttle and he comes to a stop. I would really like to get him using the brakes now. It really sucks I really want to go for a ride with him but I can not I have to be watching him all the time my son has a speach problem and he does not really talk that well yet and it is very hard to communicate with him but any advice on what you did with your kids would be much appreciated.

im not a dad (YET) well not that ino off l0l

but sounds like your doing a pretty good jobb when your telling him how to use the controls make sure he looks into your eyes and is realy listening

i have a 8 year old cousing who has a slight ortism if you didnt no he had it you wouldnt tell hes just very hippo runs around alot and if you talk to him when hes not looking into your eyes it just goes out the other ear so you have to make sure he looking and listening to u and make sure theres no other kids around destracting him

im not saying anytrhing about your some with ortism just i have to teach my cousin that ,but cause your boy has the speech problem its abit hard but if he is listening and says he understands well i guess your READY TO HIT THE TRACK L0L

Yeah thats it with these kids mate if they are not looking at you you may as well be talking to a gold fish. Yeah I did that yesterday I was showing him push the brake with his foot and after about 100 times of saying it and him nodding his head and saying yes. I thought that he had it in his head but he was not really listening he just wanted to ride. He picked it up a little he is trying to push the brake know but he just has not got the feet positioned properly yet he has to look down at the brake to see where it is but he is getting it.
I think that I was more scared then he was the one thing that I was worried about was that I would get the thing home and he would not want to get on it but when I rocked up with it on the back of the ute I have never seen the kids eyes light up the way that they did I was stoked. I hear and I actually now a few kids that are petrified of the 2 wheelers and I also now of guys that have saved hard to get there kids bikes and the little ones will not get on them but not my kid he actually balled his eyes out when it ran out of fuel and I did not have my jerry with me. What a little champion.
