I wanna get into Motard racing and from Sydney so looks like I will be going to Wollongong City Raceway. I have a look into their website and looks like they only allow up to 150c. Does it mean that if I buy the new revolutionMX TTR155 then I won't be able to race it since its 5cc over their limit? What would be the other alternative choice like a DHZ 140 or even 160 if permitted? Please give me advice on which motard I should get that is value for money while competitive enough to race.

well NSW is the only state that runs 150cc classes. in the Australian title series the max cc class is 160cc. NSW are being difficult with this and you wont find many of us interstate boys race in NSW until that adopt the same rules as everyone else.

find out if its only the class that is restricted to 150cc or if the restriction is because of insurance of the track and they wont allow anything bigger on even if your not racing.

bike wise, give us a budget and we can recommend something.

Thanx for ya info I will definitely ask the club to find out the main reason with the 150cc restriction. From my research it's due to the previous racers have spent huge amount of dollars into tunning thier 140cc so it's not feasible to change it to 160cc without upsetting them. My budget would be $2.5k for the bike & consumables. Is it a fair estimation on budgeting? If the class is 150cc only which bike would you recommanded?

The DHZ Outlaw 140 is definitely my top choice but was not too sure of what mods I should get to bring it up to pace. At this stage looks like the DHZ 140 with the carb kit & rk chain is the way to go.

i have seen some DHZ's with rather strange steering head angles, but that looks to be ok. if you have a budget of $2.5 then i wouldnt suggest a 140cc if you want to race and be competitve. there is a big difference in the power of a 140 to 150 believe it or not.

and yeah you'll be able to get a great bike for $2.5. its a good budget.

yes. 2.5k is good but decent gear is a must! and that will set you back a bit remember, maybe the outlaw with a v2 head, are these allowed?

hell yeah, the only thing you need to remember at the moment is 160cc limit (150cc NSW) the barrel, crank and gearbox have to be china. so that means you can go nuts with the head.

So what would be an alternative choice other than the DHZ 140? Maybe I should check out the front runners are racing at Wollogong City Raceway. I am not aiming to finish on the top podium as I know the extra edge on the machine would require loads of money. I am getting into the sport just for pure fun and push myself to ride better. But I still need a bike that is competitive enough to stay in the mid pack of the race and not losing position on straight line.

nup nup dont get a 140 with a v2. its better to by a YX150 with small cheap mods than a YX140 with a $400 head on it.

yeah but what motard ready bike comes with a 150 for under 2-2.5k? well actuly im going to get burned here as i have nt much idea about motard but i put in my 2cents

sounds like we need to see the rule book. cause whats the point in having a cc limit when there is a 5% leeway? dont you just make the rule book state a limit of 155cc in stead of what ever cc plus 5%?

NSW needs to catch up to the rest of the states so the whole of AUS can race. no other states that all have a class of 160cc can race in NSW without a motor change

v2 wont fit on 140.

something with a yx150 and v2 head good carb/exhaust and s35 cam , will keep you midpack easily if the rider is as good.

Why aim to buy a motard ready bike? That's silliness and just limits your options... I just bought a Nitrous 150 which I'm doing up to motard. I'll have spent a little less than $1,500 by the time I'm finished and more or less the only thing I'll be leaving stock (except for oil tuning) is the forks. If I sell off the gear I remove I could almost have some decent forks on it for ~$1,600!

You could spend less than me too, I've bought some stuff that I'm pretty sure I won't need and you could probably get some cheaper stuff than me that will do just as good a job :)

That leaves you with ~$1,000 for decent gear, If you buy a dirt helmet + goggles for ~$200 then you have ~$800 to buy a race suit, boots and gloves. That will get you some decent kit to go with your decent little beast :D

Work the engine once you can push the YX150 to its limit...

My build thread is coming. I just got word most my parts have landed so I'm starting soon :D
