yeah it may be getting enough wind over to generate spark but not quite enough to fire. if ya got a car close and a set of jumper leads try jump starting it..should give a good kick then..

OK thanks there Sean01 - I'll try tomorrow when it's not so late. Neighbours don't like the sound of constant kicking over late at night - dunno why?? :confused-smiley-013

Success - Round 2!

New spark plug in it - tried Jumping.. No luck

chechechechechechechechechechechechechechechechechechechechechechechechcechechec.

checked for spark - got intermittent spark going on. Hmm. big clue.

So I decided to dive in deeper and try the electrics set that Len sent me - even though the terminals were different (Bullet type connecters rather than spade pin connecters).

So I did this

#1 - removed the coil & CDI unit on the bike.

#2 replaced both with the coil/CDI that Len Sent me (not a member of this site, but still a nice guy)

#3 Jury rigged the Blue & Red wires out of the Magneto to the new CDI unit.

#4 Jury rigged up a kill switch to the new CDI unit.

#5 Left the green out of magneto & the two yellow's alone - they are for the earth (which is earthed to the frame already) and the Charging circuit (two yellows).

#6 jumped it off the car.

Starts, runs SMOOTH!!

Put the exhaust back on, start up again.

I put a video together about this process with my youngster. He's excited again - he was starting to lose interest cause we couldn't start it.

Next on my list of TO DO:

Longer Term:
  • Replace Swingarm Bearings
  • Stiffen Front Suspension & Rear Suspension
  • Put Oil Cooler On it - Seeing as I have one!
  • Lights! (why the heck not??) So we can ride at night.

Lol like said I kno u will take good care of it and put bolts tight again more than happy to give to you specially if than u and ure son get spend some quality time together

Well done mate.

I am having some issues with the 110cc bike. I have had a pretty good run with it on the whole but it is starting to bog down and die after the choke is turned off.

I removed and cleaned the carby again. I have adjusted the valves, replaced the fuel filter, air filter and sworn at it a couple of times. I spent the best part of 5 hours working on it today and wont really know until tomorrow if I am getting there. I don't really live in a motorbike revving type of neighborhood. At least not at this time of night.

I may have to go down the electrics path as well as the fuel/air system looks fine.

Glad to hear you are making progress and keeping the little man interested.

Logic

@largey - you're on dude. Just got to find a courier that will send it down!

@logicquests - yeah it's a pretty frustrating thing to have to fiddle and only do it at night. I know that feeling. PM Me if you want to have a chat on phone sometime to share experiences!

I was truly a happy man once I got it running sharply. CDI Unit's - @fusedminis got one ($3) new - so that's probably worth getting. New coil - High power one is worth it too - can attest.

Also - mechanic Lenny told me that the 30mm carby I had on it was too big for what I was running - 125cc so the 26mm Mikuni was a better bet.

And the grin on my lad's face was so worth it. Bring on the new tube & tyre and next weekend looks great for a zip..

Cool.

Fusedmini's is as good as sold.

I will PM you.

Nothing better than taking something that didnt work and making it work.

I think the Carby on the 110cc is fine. When it is working right it is a very aggressive little man.

It is pretty much a little 50 on steroids and crack. It has an attitude issue.

Occasionally the hard living seems to catch up with it though and it coughs and splutters like an 80 yr old with a 50 a day habit.

I need to help this little bike find a bit more balance. That is my mission.

Logic.

Yeah good stuff mate, I reckon this process is an EXCELLENT way to teach your boy important lessons like paitence and attention to detail ...qualities I sadly see lacking in many Grommies I see in my travels .... it's waaay easier to teach a kid when it's fun and what's more fun than workin on bikes. I have'nt got kids but like to think I'll go alright if I eventually do ...we got ALOT of good Dads on here...most if not all are much younger than me but if I'm ever a dad I'll be lookin to em for advice and guidance and it always makes me smile to see pics of them having there first ride or reading about em in the shed on the spanners ... makes me feel the entire world hasn't gone to sh@t if ya know what I mean ?

I also think it's better you got it not running and persisted and made it run there's so many lessons for him in that that he wouldn't have got if you just bought him one that I don't know where to start so yeah again well done ... oh and the elec start ? once it's tuned and runnin sweet rip it off and your battery they are usless weight if you're riding though it probably won't matter to him as much ... they are known as poofter buttons because of there uslessness though lol.

Anyway again well done here's a rep point

Largy that's a generous offer so you get one too ...some may give ya some flack for not maintaining it... but like you said you got ya moneys worth and the cinni will land soon ...so happy days . I've given away a few bikes myself and it's a great gift because I reckon you give more than just a bike ... think of the hours of fun always curious will have on it with his boy if he can find a way to get it from up there ...hours n hours maybe years of character building fun ...

that's a good gift man so yeah well done have a rep point too .

oh won't let me rep ya Largy because I gave ya one recently so someone rep him he deserves it.

30mm is too big Seans the guru but I'd suggest a 26mm oko ...and a seatbelt lol

i love this thread
i know the joy in my heart when my little girl wants to get on my bike with me
and at the age of 3 she is not much help on the tool just yet
but she is by my side talking my ear off when ever im tinkering on my bikes
so its only time till i can share my knowledge with her

and dready i repped largey for ya old boy

Thanks guys there no need for rep I would hope other ppl would do the same bit of Aussie spirit goes long way

Hey always.

How are things coming along?

I have had a breather from the 110cc for a couple of days in the hope it will just come to its senses.

I have bought a few bits and pieces lately and will maybe start a build from scratch in the next month or so. I think it would be fun.

My 6 yr old is getting more confidence each time he rides and is doing very well. Had a bit of a smash the other day, no damage to him or the bike, but he jumped straight back on and off he went.

Hi Logic. Need to properly terminate the new electrics into the wiring harness.

Still need to put rear wheel & tube back together, with rimlocks and then we'll be able to ride. Sorry to hear about your recalcitrant 110.

Update>

On the weekend - my son and I wandered out to the shed for a while to do some more work.

We re-terminated the wiring harness, and we've got it so it runs well.

Electric starter works OK - Just need solenoid & battery if I want that to work.

In the meantime I've got it so I can jump it off my Kawasaki.

Starts First Kick Now!!! woot woot. So it's running well.

Last thing to do: Back Tube.

Tried to fit back tube - but realised I bought the WRONG ONE. ah well.

Bought a new back tube today - proper one this time. Will fit it on Wednesday when I get some spare time.

So we SHOULD be out this Saturday if all goes well. Might go for a few hours early morning.
