Hiya,

I have searched the forums, but couldnt find the exact answer for my question. Which kinda oil do i need for the engine ?

In terms of 15w-40 or similar? And is there a seperate oil for engine and tranny ?

Thanks for your great site, im visiting all the way from Denmark :)

You need mineral oil. Buy Motul 1000 mineral oil.

I think it might be 20w - 50w buts it doesn't make much difference.

any non-friction modified 10w-40 works great, and only 1 oil needed for these 4stroke thumpers, the gearbox and crank share the same oil.. But only use synthetics AFTER the motor has been run-in
Good to see some people from Europe joining this forum.

Why run it in with mineral oil? Im confused normaly you would run your bike in with the oil you will always use i.e synthetic?

i think you just use cheap oil to run it in?

i am using motul 10-40 semi syn and it runs well!

Im running mine in with synthetic 10w-40 ATM, no clutch slip there. I dunno where this run in with mineral comes from? Can anyone tell me exactly why they should use mineral over synthetic?

Surely a synthetic lubricant would mean less friction hence less wear and create smoother surfaces in your newer engine? I dunno.

I say use the synthetic after initial run-in because 1: full synthetics are so slippery that they affect the bedding in of the rings into the bore. Not having the rings bedded in properly will result in a bike having lower performance and shorter life span.

2:it is 10 times cheaper than synthetics and because it is recommended to change the oil 3-4 times during the run in process, it makes sense to use the cheaper of the two.
Synthetics wont make your clutch slip, that is a result of using friction modified oils.

Thanks a lot for the answers! After run-in i changed to a Synthetic 10w-40 oil. The bike runs even greater now, and im getting more and more happy for it!

You have been alot of help, even though i feel theres a split opinion between synt/mineral oil ;-)
