Get yourself a cheap multimeter, jaycar have a pocket one for $6 iirc.
Set it to DC volts and put the red lead from meter to the positive battery terminal and the black lead to the negative terminal.
Start and run the bike and check the reading on the meter.
It should be close on 12.5 volts at idle, then go up to 13.8 volts at 2500 rpm and higher.
Anything over that will wreck your battery
