coming right along with putting her together. tomorrow i'll have the motor buttoned up and if i dont work to late i'll be able to start throwing the chassis together as well. i give this motor about a 10% chance it will live. by the time i got the piston cut everything is so thin i'll be really surprised if it dont melt down. if it does looks like i'll have to bite the bullet and either shrink a rod or do a set of custom pistons.

Math has been done a bunch of times just trying to make something work without going custom piston. To keep timing edge un cut would need a 95.5mm rod which there isn't one. Even if there was there isn't enough material in the dome for exhaust notch. Only way to get around all of this is put a 2v head on it or custom piston. Sucks was really hoping not to have to do a custom piston

motors together now time to start putting it all together

if this piston goes sour plan B get custom pistons made

Wow that looks friggen sweet. I think I missed the point of the title this whole time cuz that looks like a klx110 head on a vertical engine lol

you got it ;-) the bottom half is honda xr 80 cylinder up klx 110

Looking great, Chad! Nice mold. Is that refried beans? lol Man, I'd forgot how deep that chamber is. 79-up CB750 deep...

bondo ;-) bondo and 200 mph tape you can build just about anything. yea its deep. when i had it set up on the yx bottom it had a static CR of like 9:1 and still pulled 18.5hp thats why i was thinking gett the CR up some i should be able to break into the 20's pretty easy

update: fragged another set of kicker gears. so this focking thing will be coming apart again and this time it it wont be getting a kicker!

Still not ready to call BBR for that cam? lol
I don't think its going to cure the problem cause of how much throw I have with the kick start. So im done pissing with it ill bump start it. Rotten motor is going to cause me to stroke out.

got it apart tonight ugh its ugly. i'd like to kick those guys in the nuts over there at the cryo treating place. o yeah mr norman this will make it more robust and wont sheer off like the other set did. swear it was about the same amount of kicks maybe less. i called a bunch of gear shops today all but one flat out said they wont even bother with doing a billet set for me. the other one said he doubts he will and if he does it will be 600-800 a flipping gear. so as hell bent as i am/was i'm going to have to admit defeat and bump start it.

fockingkickstartgear005.jpg
o the pain and the agony  this has to be worth 30 extra hp right?

fockingkickstartgear007.jpg
hate to admit it but i think i gotta wave the white flag and say fock them kicker gears

gotta stay focused on the prize. maybe one of these years ill figure it out and get it together.

This is a honda bottom end with honda kicker gears??? I may have missed something but why do they keep breaking? You have reasonable compression ration right?

They're a weak link, in any big XR100 build. Usually it's the teeth stripping. Shaft breakage is a new one by me. Chad must have put his entire big,,, um, might, in to it.

yup other than the clutch and oil pump the rest is all honda. as terry stated below its a weak link in the 80/100 design. guys break them all the time with 115 and 120 kits now factor its swinging a 66mm piston vs a 58mm that would be used in a 120 kit along side with 57mm of stroke its just tears the gears apart. CR isn't idea but its not terrible. i didnt have the urge to cc for the dome cause i dont think this piston will last long. but when figuring CR as if it where a flat top your looking at almost 12.44:1 so with the dome i'd rough guess it 13-13.5:1

you better believe it :p the gut is not only good for extra traction but its good for putting down a good thump on a kick starter.

my metalurgy knowledage sucks so i'm going to bounce it off you see what you suggest. say one was eager enough to cut his own kick start gears what material would you use? chromoly and harden? or something else

finally the hard work and irritation has paid off!! threw the motor back together and got it together enough to pop start it. let me tell ya this bump start chit is for the birds. put it in 5th got a good run at it hopped on it motor spun maybe a half of a revolution stopped dead in its tracks and stuff my nuts into the tank. so im like fock this im getting the x mark mower out ill drag this sob. so i conned my ole man to pull me along behind the x mark. which was risky old bat squerielly as hell, finally stabled out dropped the clutch and she fired right up. for not being jetted or ignition timing not being right it ran really strong. after running it i had decided i have entirely to much compression for the cam im running, need to tighten up valve lash a lil bit and i should of resleeved for the different piston lil sloppy on cylinder wall clearance. tomorrow im going to yank it again pop the top take a peak around make sure what im thinking is right and over the winter ill get a custom flat top made and plate the cylinder.
