figuring out second is easy...just look at the gears themselves. tiny one to a big one is first, and the two that are much the same size will be fourth... 2nd and third are in between...
replace the fork.
reassemble the thing and shim things if theres too much slop.
get it back together.
or dont. it can remain in pieces in a box at the back of the bottom shelf gathering dust.
as good a place as any...
you aint gunna harden nothin!
its already hardened (in china mind you) then finish ground to size.
hardening it distorts it. you about to spend several grand on getting a shaft made up? one off custom piece... all them splines... didnt think so...
same for the gears... as hard as they will be.
