The made in china "ds80" ignition coil supposedly direct replacement for newer model years from the 90s to 2001 lol yea in dreams

And yes the coil is wrong but I found used and new replacements that I know this time are correct for 25-50 dollars

FOUND IT I believe so at least somehow the part nums must have gottenmixed the primary coil for this non points bike is 32140-35410 what I have must be the older non points coil I looked up the 1979 coil and it looked exactly like what I have on it. Sooooooo lol anyone have a pre 1980 ds80 they need a coil for?

was the ignition coil reading you got on the secondary side 8.4 Ohms ?
does your meter only have an Auto setting for reading Ohms ?
my meter has 4x Ohms settings- 200, 2000, 20,000 and 200,000

i measured the secondary side of the ignition coil so you have something to reference yours' against.
picture for reference only (it's a honda coil)

so to test the Secondary side of the coil, set your meter to 20,000 Ohms.
put one lead to the coil power terminal and the other lead from the meter to the wire inside the end of the coil lead (with cap unscrewed)
you should get a reading around 10.8K Ohms (10,800 Ohms)
now put one lead from the meter to the frame/coil earth, and the other from the meter to the wire inside the end of the coil lead.
you should get a reading around 5.4K Ohms (5400 Ohms)

and to test the primary side of the coil,
set your meter to 200 Ohms,
put one lead from the meter to the coil earth point.
put the other lead from the meter to the power terminal of the ignition coil.
you should get a reading around 2.2 Ohms

do you have a reading of the source coil from your stator ?
set it to 200 Ohms,
put one lead from the meter to the stator backing plate,
and the other lead from the meter to the wire at the end of the stator loom
mine reads 132 Ohms

Which wire to the stator loom?
I honestly don't know which side I was connecting to as I tried them all. I believe it was one wire in the spark plug wire and one on the side of the coil. It was the only way to get a reading off the bike. When it was mounted I tested the spade conn on the side and the body that bolts onto the frame right side

Talked to the seller of the stator ign coil the last digits of the part num are 43012 for the one I purchased. I def have the wrong stator coil for the year bike I have.
Would explain the size diff as with points you have the condensor the points and so on just to build the charge to the coil so it would possibly need a bigger stator coil

thanks for those figures xr ill test them when I get home I really really appreciate it. If there's anythin I can do to help ill try lol.
As for the parts I know right now I have aan ignition coil for a chinese 150-200cc four stroke that ill prob just resell. And with the knowlege I know now of the stator coil and with your figures if it tests wrong ill know I def have the wrong coil for that.

Figured out what to do. I'm going to just order a new coil for my daughters lt80 and when it comes in swap my old coil off it for the new lt80 one. Orig hers was damaged by. A genious owner and I was given the ds80 for parts the coil worked and she was impatient lol.

That was the problem lol sucks when you have a lack of sleep and can't figure out what's wrong on a motor. It revved like hell without the muffler my poor ears

yeah i think that was mentioned early in this thread,
but with the source/primary coil being the wrong one or faulty too, that didn't help much either.

i see the DS80 kickstart shaft breakages are a common thing too, check this option out 1998 ds80x first run lil rich - YouTube

It was just the coil I put all the stock parts back on it along with the coil I put on the lt80 and it runs perfect

it shows another way to start a DS80 that has a broken kick start shaft
here is the video-
