That or "pop starting" lol used to have to do it a lot with my old batavus the starter shaft was a pain in the a#* to get to

issues 1998 ds80x

I feel like a newb always asking stuff but I have absolutely no book and the bike was in pieces when I got it. The front brake lever was it connected to a brake sensor wire or was the tail light just a simple taillight I had another question but my wife distracted me smh lol

on the underside of the front brake lever there is a brake light switch
90% of the time they aren't connected

Good because these alloy levers are killer lol. Got a clutch one to match. Already eyeing a set of pro tapers and grips.

Weeeelllll not my smartest moments lol I took it for a ride with a bad sprocket bad chain and threw the chain before that everytime it was really revved the chain ran through the worn sprocket like it was perfectly round lol and it lost the main link (getting did chain anyways) the float is at 24mm and still leaking but its not trash as it was cleaned and ran with a new filter exactly right when it happened its only coming out the drain screw line only when leaned over a little. Float doesn't leak and floats even in parts cleaner for over an hour. However I suspect the float needle spring whatever you call it does stick and it didn't look right when removed ill try a new needle first before anything

Ok has anyone dealt with the clutch actuator or basically the small rod that the cable moves, actually coming out of the case and disconnecting? The oil seal is good but it keeps sliding out after pulling on the lever a few times during riding

the oil seal holds the clutch pinion rod into the clutch cover.
so your seal must have been damaged at some stage, they have a metal outer lip that is a press fit into the cover.
or if the seal isn't leaking i guess you could clean the cover and outer lip of the seal and use some Loctite Retaining compound

or even this

Eh ill just get a new seal new parts don't hurt. "Damaged at some stage" is a light way to put "previous owner was a #*#@" who tried to say the mangled poor wrecked bike was used in racing that's why it had absolutely no air filtration bald tires and the forks weren't bent they were "custom to the rider" and it was "well worth 800 dollars" in peices to the moron I used to fix bikes for lol poor poor ds 80 its ok ill take care of you

Been off for a while moving my building and stuff however putting together parts wheres a good deal on decent spokes? Went to tighten em a while ago noticed a few were broken or the nut damaged

Lol sorry for the delay been moving christmas ect but ill give an update: lil by little I've been accumulating parts and so far I have gotten a 34t rear sprocket from sunstar the front is I believe one tooth diff up or down from the stock I already Had. A nos seal for the clutch release lever a new rear brake rod carb rebuild and much more to come haven't gotten around to working on it but I did have it running long enough to. Test it out and its got great potential and Power. Hopefully soon ill add some great pics and work on here soon

if at first you dont succeed get a bigger hammer....

Nice work, i wondered what had happened to you.
Merry Xmas too !!

Just got the. Sprocket in mail and dang sun star sprockets look pretty good that stock. Sprocket. Was lighter and softer than this one

if at first you dont succeed get a bigger hammer....

Yeah they are pretty good, they made them for Yamaha during the 80's too.
My IT200 had a Sunstar on it from new, and i've replaced it with the same brand

Just waiting on a new chain to come in got it running nice id share vid if my phone wasn't being a pain

if at first you dont succeed get a bigger hammer....

Ugh I to ask but I can't. Exactly look at it or anything atm its late and I'm all anxious about it but does the ds80 have any other adjustment for the clutch besides the cable tension? Because it was. Not very grabby slipping as if the clutch had no pressure. And I torqued. The spring bolts per spec and. Everything. In know the ct has an external bolt and nut to adjust clutch tension per. Wear.

if at first you dont succeed get a bigger hammer....

Does your cable have an adjuster where it locates on the top of the Clutch cover ?

Otherwise you could pull the actuator arm off at the splines on top of the clutch actuator rod and move it back 1 spline.
There needs to be a couple of mm's freeplay when you push the actuator arm back, otherwise it will be riding on the clutch and slip, also it'll wear out you clutch plates etc

A brand new DS80 adjustable Motion Pro clutch cable is about $13 in the US
