Oh and just for the record I'm doing this work because I want to, the bike was still running sweet before I decided to pull it down, the Orion AGB21 that my brother bought for his wife at the same time has been treated the same as my motox and it's still perfect aswell and he isn't modifying anything.

Mine was good for about 2yrs of hidings, for a bit of fun that you could wring its neck and not let you down. I said it in another thread out of a range of minis the group of us had the Atomiks were most reliable..............

Until you hit a rock going full tilt, this one hurt lol

damn dude that would of hurt

I was lucky I was half standing up so didn't get caught on the hangers, I had BMX ones on. Somersaulted and army rolled so didn't do too badly, had a singlet and jeans on so got scratched up on my back and also had a stick jammed in my arm that had to be pulled out.

Did the old look at the object that you want to avoid trick hahaha

Hmmm im statring to think i should have left the old girl alone, nothing seems to be a straight bolt up upgrade :cursing:

I'm getting there but everything needs to be modified, I started with the new swingarm which was to wide for the frame so I had to machine up a couple of 3.5mm think spacers to set the swingarm up central to the frame, then my old rear brake caliper wouldn't work with the new swingarm but it was easier to get a new 1 with bracket from DHZ rather than modify my existing 1, so that solved that problem, then my rear wheel was originally a 12mm axle, no problem I thought just get some new bearings with a 15 mm bore except they don't exist, my hubs are machined different to hubs to suit 15mm axles, so I made up some sleeves to fit in the bore of some bearings that fit my hubs but had 16mm bores, then my original discs were to small to get a full brake pad on so I got some new discs but the discs are drilled on a different pcd so I rotated them 90 degrees and re drilled them & I also had to machine 5mm of the outside diameter because the discs wear rubbing in the caliper. Anyway now the back end is all together and working sweet so let's see what problems the front end causes? Thankfully I can do all my own machining or this would have turned into an impossible nightmare.

Oh and I also had to make up new wheel spacers and for some strange reason I had to make the chain guard narrower because it was miles to wide which I found strange because it actually came with the swingarm. On another note can someone tell me how th attach photos to this thread, I wouldn't mind putting some photos of it up when it's finished, I'm good at machining and custom fabrication work but I suck when it comes to computers

Make sure you make a HT swing arm bolt, every atomik I have known snaps them!

Well people its been almost 5 years since we bought these bikes and guess what? They are still running fine

That's good to hear. Two of my uncles have had an atomik for a huge 8 years and one of them still starts second kick and goes well. All it's had is a yearly service and 1 carby cleaning. It has also been kept in a shed whenever its not in use. My other uncles has been abused and left in the rain and only lasted him 6 months after first ride. Goes to show if u take care of the atomiks and keep them out of the weather they can last.

Well she's a roller again :driver: Ive got a couple of little things I still want to do to it but everything is back together and working sweet and we are going away riding next week so it time to see how everything performs. I think its now the Motox that atomik should have built but then again that would have upped the price that made this bike so appealing in the first place. Ill put some better photos up when its 100% finished but I just thought id show you guys a quick pic of how she looks now.

Hey mate that is a real clean job you have done, and the bike like you said is how they should have done it. I reckon all the aftermarket goodies and colours all blend really good, but all up its a great build and attention to detail is great, loving the fact your still running the DUCAR.

Thanks mate, im really happy with the way it turned out, the ducar is still running sweet and my wife likes the electric start so it can stay there for now, if it ever dies im thinking ill probably put 1 of the 150 electric start engines in it that dhz sells, has anyone had anything to do with them and how much work would be involved in fitting one.

Cheers Chris

The 150 elec start may require a different harness and cdi( but i think they have the 5 pin cdi like the ducar would be running), if the current battery is a 4AH then it may require a 5AH for a tad more cranking power but is a small height difference with that battery, all the other stuff should be the same i.e rectifier, solenoid, and other elec start parts, the 150 would require an oil cooler and if the frame does not have the extra 100mm frame extension from the front tank mount than the engine may hit the front tyre on compression of the forks, just a few things to look at but nothing a new chromoly frame could not fix.

Well guys and girls I thought I'd post up a quick report on how the old atomik motox has been going, for those who haven't been on here that long I bought the bike in about March 2008 for my wife to ride, and basically went over it, changed out the real cheap and nasty parts and basically just rode it and performed regular maintenance on it and it served us well till around March 2013 when I decided to give it a birthday and rebuild it and trick it up a bit, mind you the engine still hasn't been pulled down for a rebuild and is still running sweet and yes the electric start still works. Well it finally stopped last weekend, a little confused but not really upset I towed it back to camp to have a look what had finally failed on the old ducar, to my surprise it had split the fuel line from the tank to the carby and over about 1/2 an hour the fuel had all leaked out. Easy fix, new piece of fuel line, fill it back up and the little dual fired right back up. Anyway she is almost 8 years old now and I know it hasn't been constantly valve bounced but it gets ridden pretty regularly and with regular maintenance it keeps coming back for more.

Preety decent, my brother had a motox125 only bad thing about it was the electric start :/ but other than that the motor held together from thrashing nearly every weekend, but this is when we used to not hit jumps! But all round a great bike for someone to learn manual, decent power, and mainly great fun :)
